That sounds fair to me.
Team selection
I agree that seems fair. I do not think too many matches are being arranged as this will allow the boss to have more games to share out amongst the group.
I'm not sure "boss" is the job I applied for - more team coach or director of coaching or as we're in a chess environment "head-master" !!
As I tend to join all the matches, I am happy to be dropped from some to give others a chance. Don't like the term 'head-master' either - makes me think I am back at school!!😲
I never made "headmaster" despite 35 years of teaching, Jim, so I thought this might be my chance !!!!!! Mind you I wouldn't do their job now if you paid me 10 times what they earn.
Thanks for your support !
Alan, sounds very fair to me. I am happy with the number of matches. I'm quite enjoying the chance to play slower time limits rather than the 2+1 rubbish I usually play.
More "banter" (or feedback) would be good. Also, maybe a team night out so that we can get to meet our fellow team mates. I have no idea who is who.
Also, is there a possibility of an in-house club tournament? I think I read recently that chess.com could cope with live games now
Chris
After last night I think there should be a policy that anyone who defeats a Wellington player in the West Somerset league should be banned from selection for the Wyverns. Mr Isaac please note - and we are playing you next Thursday. Mind you we could be a bit short on numbers then!
Thanks for your comments Chris. I like the idea of a Club Tournament, though I'd be inclined to make it a "daily Chess" one with say a 3 day move time. It would be particularly interesting at the moment with the several new members whose gradings are approximate to say the least.
Just caught up with this discussion- I wondered what that little bell icon at the top of the screen meant! I really don't mind and will not be offended if I'm left out of some matches. Especially the more serious ones where you need the higher ranked players to step up. I love being in Somerset Wyvern, it's such a friendly team, thanks for getting it together Alan.
i am happy to miss out on games for a few weeks. I did not play on Good Friday (family do) and I had 20 games awaiting my move when I looked on Saturday. That is rather too many for me to cope with at one go. I have some games for team England on the go at present so I will try to find some brilliant moves (some hope!) to finish them quickly then I will be down to manageable numbers. When I am ready for some new games for Somerset I will apply to join the new games
Still need you for the big ones, Rob. I find between 50 and 60 games just about manageable although me grading doesn't seem to agree !
Your display must be different to mine, Rupert. My notes from Team England always get highlighted whoever has posted them, whereas I tend to have to look for Wyvern's comments.
Thanks for asking our views boss. My view is that we should play our strongest teams in Cup and County Championship matches. As to friendlies I think that it is a good idea to try to match up the grades whilst at the same time trying to ensure that everyone gets a fair share of matches, not always an easy task.
Although I will always sign up for a match please feel free to omit me to give others a chance
In preparation for when Arsene goes I intend to start practicing my team selection and man management skills.
Seriously now that we have more and more matches to play, I shall be withdrawing some players from some matches (when we have more than is needed). This will not be done on results but on trying to balance gradings with the opposition and, more importantly, trying to give everyone reasonable opportunities.
Please let me know what you think about this - I'd hate to upset anyone. I do feel the one area of Somerset Wyvern we could improve on is the feedback and participation in discussion.
While we're on the subject of matches - with the recent influx of new members, am I arranging enough matches, too many, let me know what you think.
Thanks for your support,
Alan
