Hundreds of variants have been declined in the past... the standards are high; we don't just accept anything to be able to be played by everyone rated.
Many of my variants get declined but do I get upset? No.
Definitely agree with your point:
As long as every variant (whether declined or accepted) is a learning experience, then that's a good thing; when I started posting variants, it took me about 2 years to get one accepted, and it always took me a month or so to iron out a concept. Some practice, feedback, and observations of others helped me get to where I am now.
To OP, think of it like the engineering process, with all of the steps. Many variants that have original concepts but are declined could very well do great with a revision; if you think that the CGAs' declination message is too vague, you can always contact us for a more detailed explanation or to challenge something objective (like when we decline a variant for having a forced win).
BTW @ChessMasterGS I think your first ever accepted game would we WoF - The Cavalry. Am I right?
The Cavalry was an NCV, and it was declined
WoF - Red Light is my first accepted variant
