Ok Bokek, a new topic. Since we are all different people,we would inevitably have different beliefs. I for one do not believe in any spirit following me home after a funeral unless it came in the form of some bottle.
The Dead

So after one wayward stop, the spirits get confused and you're safe to go home? Not to nitpick here, but if you are attending someone's "rite of passage", he/she is likely a friend, acquaintance, or relative. Unless said deceased is a colossal prick, let them come!
I would say that after any self-respecting wake or funeral, the spirits go home with you!

Here's another: upon a person's death, the entire household (or in the provinces even the entire clan) is not supposed to take a bath until burial.
And you are welcome to candy if you don't subscribe to this.

Not taking a bath? Maybe Old Testament ritual for mourning, Chief.
Now here's another. Favorite footwear may be placed in the coffin, but don't have the dead wear them

A lot of Old Testament rituals were done away with. With the arrival of the CHRIST most were fullfilled. We dont sacrifise animals any more do we? The big guy himself said I dont want your burnt sacrifices,I want your love!

Would that Love be everywhere, Chief. It's staple mantra for all religions, although all fall short.
Anyway, here's the next practice in the province: Just after lowering of the coffin, all mourners cross the grave on a plank. Upon their return to the house of the deceased, they walk/leap across burnt out ashes.

Ah yes all fall short, except the Christ Himself. We are all human try as we might we dont perfectly succede. But this is what repentance is for. It also says your most righteous acts are as filthy rags. Yes the love is everywhere but you must seek it. I have never heard of some of the rituals that you speak of,I would suspect that a lot of these are man made
Where are the burnt ashes from?

No specific materials for the ashes, Chief, mainly twigs and straws. So, do you think, Chief - man has to seek his own salvation?
Back to practices, Chief, here's superstition - when you whisper what you wish for to a corpse, your wish will come true.

That is a fallacy man cannot seek his own salvation. He is an inferior being. Man there are so many stories I had to listen as a child. When I became a man I put away childish things. Now question for you, finish this sentence. The wages of sin are what?

Death.
The twin of Taxes. Inescapable, ever approaching.
I read it would be the last to be conquered among the enemies of God. I hope God wins. As do many other people.
There are many beliefs, though, and please correct me if I'm wrong. In Nibelungenlied, Loki and his minions win in the end.
Another practice relating to the dead is to break the rosary of the deceased shortly before burial.

Ok Bokek, have you been looking in old German poems? That is where nibelungenlied comes from written in the 12th. century.I see that you answered the question correctly, most excellent. You have a statement of self doubt in your answer of you hope GOD wins. I can assure you HE does. I have read the back of the book.Ok breaking of the rosarys I think you would be better off. Repetitive prayer does no good very reminiscent of the chanting of past religions. I will assume that I will offend some people with these statements but remember you asked.

I was just making the observation that we aren't lacking in contrary belirf, Chief. While the majority - Christian, Islamic, Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Chinese, etc. lore express certain triumph of the good, there are also believers in the opposite.
As for me, I believe we are sure to win, because we did not choose to be here.
With regard to repetitive prayer, Chief, I think the basis the cite is the biblical widow who pestered the judge for justice. Anyway, the rosary has brought me into good company, so I won't fight that.
Breaking the rosary? I'm not much affected - it's a tool, isn't it? I just don't enjoy breaking tools.
Next belief concerning the dead - if a butterfly appears at a strange time, it's probably a spirit coming to visit. Incidentally I was at the cemetery cleaning tombstones at our lot; later in the day a butterfly was fluttering in the house, even attacking the ceiling lizard instead of fleeing it! Very funny! And it stayed on till the little earthqauke this afternoon
Happy Halloween, all!

What judge in any country goes by Biblical law? Certainly not in this country, they go by precendent, every body is judged by whatever has happened in the past, ludicrous. Every bodys case is different so it should be judged accordingly. I would not let any of them judge any of my animals in any contest. Here we have nine so called judges who determine what the laws say. Turns out most of them are Blasphemers. Biblical law says the law is to no effect to a righteous man,why because he has a set of laws to adhere too which is much more righteous than any laws that man creates.

And yea to that, Chief! When Ninoy Aquino was thrown into a prison cell in solitary confinement, his lawyer argued that man was not meant to be alone, citing the creation of Eve. Of course the Marcos controlled court rejected that argument.
What animals do you keep, Chief, aside from your tall horse which I am very wary of riding?
And as final instalment in my enumeration of practices concerning the dead, today is All Saints'; all over the country people will troop to the cemeteries. Estimate says up to a million people will visit the largest burial ground in the capital. Many tents have been set up; the authorities have banned the bringing of liquor, drugs, gambling materials, karaoke, radios, PA machines, deadly weapons. Of course warnings are out on losing kids and avoiding pickpockets.
Happy halloween!

Ah yes the marcos court rejected the argument. One doesnt want to look bad if they are in charge, but the end result for marcos and his cronies wasnt very pleasant was it. We have a full range of animals here of course my favorite Turkeys. Also chickens, ducks, geese, dogs, cats. I will not be going to the festivities if I cant bring liquor, drugs or gambling items.
First tim =e I conversed with my buddy Time_on_Target, it was clear he was an avid GD fan. I sort of felt sorry for him, thinking how disappointed he would be to find he was alone here. Then I found out what's what!
Well in this topic I'd write down some rite or belief I know, and invite others to contribute or comment - till Nov. 1 passes.
After attending a wake or a burial, you are not supposed to go home directly, lest the spirit accompany you home.
