the extension isnt changing the pieces

so i was excited when i saw there was a custom pieces extension and went and installed it. but it didnt change anything except for the background. what do i do? (the browser i use is opera GX btw if its relevant)

I use Chrome. In the top right corner i see an icon for installed add-ons.

I press it and I see the Chess.com Custom Pieces.

I click on that one at up comes the menu that let me change pieces (and give me back the original background).

i did that but it still wouldnt change

Did you press "Save Changes" in the bottom of the settings window?

If you are not able to press the Save button, for any reason, that would explain why you cant see your selected pieces. They are just not saved. As for the custom background that comes with the extension, what I did to remove it was to press the "Delete" button for backgrounds and then save. I hope you find a way to solve it.

There is another possibility... Do you have arcade effects activated? If so, that would prohibit the extensions images to work.

Under "Pieces animations" in settings for your chess board, if it is set to "Arcade" or "Natural" the extension will not work for the pieces.

I had this problem and mine are set to "Natural" - maybe this should be in the extension description

You install the extension on the Chrome Web Store (if you use Chrome as your internet software), and you can access the extension up on the right side of your Chrome window, shaped as an icon of a jigsaw puzzle piece.
