I think that 'good' and 'evil' are always relative. So one could say that God is 'evil' because he does things that are forbidden according to our modern rules. But the law at the time was different and therefor he was 'right' and what he did was right because "he was the law". Just look at medieval punishment where one was tortured and questioned, beheaded and burned. Today we lock people up for years and force them to take drugs to control their voices their heads etc. The question is: where do I get a measurement form what is 'good' and 'evil' and how solid is that measure in time.
Thoughts on these debates

More than that. 'good' is always 'good for me' and my people. So God is good when he is on my side. And so it is best to be on 'Gods side'.

And so I can use God to define 'good'. Whatever I define as 'good' I put into Gods mouth and acts. Everything that is bad for me I do the same, just call it different: Satan, Devil, the dark side ...
Religion is a powerful tool. Use it well!
