THRICE UPON A TIME!

I don't know if anyone followed the link to the YCA website but here is a short story  that I hope goes some way to explaining my anger at John Brooke's behaviour(I give exact dates to deter any thoughts of slander cases).

On the 19/9/2006 I was playing for South Bradford A at home against the Polish, first match of the season. In the previous season JB had been board six for us. This match John Milnes was board four for Polish, whatever bad blood was there had happened before so JB insisted on playing out of order in the hope of getting an unsporting point.

We(his own team) told him where to get off. This was the first anniversary of Marion's death and when he left, I was relieved.

The following week was the cup, we were a man down(I heard rumuours that JB had approached Shipley to play for them) and so went into the plate.

League week2 3/10/2006 we are due to play Undercliffe Knights. I am first to arrive, go upstairs, no key, cupboard locked- blast! time for a drink next to arrive, whilst I was buying my second, JB. I told him no key , Knights players arrived, I explained the position, they looked at me as if I was the sort who didn't need a key.

David arrived with the key and all bar one(!) agreed Knights be given some time( I forget the exact amount) but JB kept on arguing,he was on time, he should have his full time. He was not there in time to set up all on his own.

Strangely enough he played! He forfeited time and played! Two weeks earlier, he couldn't pick his opponent and left!

After he won his game he persisted in arguing, others were still playing(you could still hear him shouting downstairs). I told Dave I would no longer play in the same team as the man. Dave said"don't worry he's quit".

League week 3 10/10/2006, home against Shipley(who did this fixture list?). Who sat opposite me? Judas Iscariot, don't be silly, John Brooke, yes!! A player registered for South Bradford was playing for Shipley against South Bradford. Rules! What Rules? JB rules!! that's what rules!!

I would rather have played Judas, even with that rope round his neck and after last Saturday I would have borrowed the rope.

ReddersP

I played JB in the 90's in an individual game back when the individuals were held at the Polish Club.  I totally bossed him in the game winning his queen and so he withdrew from the individual competition.

Due to circumstances I didn't see him again for years, until he appeared at the Bradford Congress this September 2011.  I thought to myself, 'oh my, Mr antagonism is back'.  He was looking for a club to join. I see from your posts above and on Ihors & Matts Yorkshire site it hasn't taken him very long to settle in again has it?

From past experience I have a feeling he cajoled his captain into making that pairing(I'd heard that JM has forfeited in Tournaments before).

Your mention of Bradford Congress reminds me of a time when I played JB, I managed to get my queen trapped in the opening. Graham was stood behind JB shaking his head and laughing. I went to your kid and said"it's all book".  A few moves later I got the queen back.

When I next played JB in a league game, I again had black. He played some prepared plan(book) and again won my queen. I said" I only got one piece last time, that means I'm a piece up" I then went on to mate him. That's how proper players win.

Isn't John playing in one of Tony Ibbitson's teams?

Checked chessnuts Dave, you're right. Well you was at the end of November(glad to see Dave bounced straight back- black against Tony, I am impressed).

Will they get him playing chess or will it be cobblers. Sorry I mean will they sell their souls?

DING,DING BRING OUT YOUR DEAD

Well the sad news is John Milnes has decided not to play in Bradford or YCA competitions as long as there is a chance of a recurrence of last Saturday.

At least it took a vote to get shut of me( I would say not one man, but that ........ is not a man).

I have contacted John to see if there is any chance of him playing in Calderdale.

I am sure a decent player would be welcome.

All that typing and Tony never read it.

John would be welcolm in the Courier team I am sure!  I will have to check my scorebooks to see if i ever played 'JB'.  he seems to be a character.  If we were all the same then life and indeed the Bradford Chess scene, would be boring.  Does this forum topic have the record for the most views / comments on Y.O.B.S.?  I will try to set a record for the least views / comments by posting my draw with Nick on Monday

Lovely bloody lovely! Do you like your eggs poached as well, Dave?

quequeg

?????  John Milnes being the John welcome to play for Courier of course.  eggs boiled or fried.

Nick joined the forum on Ihor & Matty's site. He has elaborated  since, so I am still a Central player, though not this week.

If any one eligible fancies a game on Saturday  contact Nick.
