Tips for Increasing Ratings

I've played many atomic, but my rating still 1950. I want to increase my rating, so I need some tips from you.

Your tips will help me (maybe other players too) to get a higher rating.

1. learn as many openings as u can, especially the counters for spam openings

2. learn lines that are mostly unkown so that ppl might fall for ur traps

3. analyze ur games and check to see what mistakes u make so u can improve on them

4. learn as many mates as possible so that u dont miss a win

5. watch strong players play and learn from them

6. make sure every move is productive and no move is wasted (unless its forced, of course)

7. try to look ahead by at least 3 moves and if u struggle with that draw arrows

8. remember your goal is the king and if u can boss around their pieces with threats then do it (just make sure its not a trap)

9. losing a single piece can change the course of the game so make sure u dont hang anything unless its for a trap or sacrifice (its best to sacrifice if u can win something more important later like a queen or maybe even mate)

10. dont stress. if u arent having fun or not enjoying or are tilted then take a break bc the less u enjoy what u do the less u want to do it

like tip #7 drawing arrows does help, as these don't go away after someone makes a move.

Honestly, the main trick I found useful that helped me shoot up like 50 points or so was to realize that both sides have different ways of thinking of things:

For White: Play aggressively; at midgames (typically when queens are off), always ensure you are always up a piece (this includes pawns, as the difference between pawns and pieces slowly diminishes). Try and keep things in your realm of knowledge, so you maintain a solid lead throughout the game.

For Black: Try not to die; don't fall for traps and grab counterplay if possible. Additionally, ensure that you aren't down any significant material, specifically rooks or queens (if you are down them, it's probably already lost if you don't have forced mate or counterplay). Black is usually lost anyway so don't concern yourself too much with losing. Your main goal for black is to learn other openings and get an exciting game.

Also, arrows are my savior, my current system is to calculate 3-5 moves ahead for your attack, think like 2-4 moves for their attack & your defense, and draw many general arrows for where you WANT to take the game (it's also good for impressing others even if you don't understand the arrows yourself).

For watching strong players: I don't really, but for the few times I have it has been cool to watch. If you have friends, get them to play Atomic, which makes it more fun for you and allows you to see more openings and ideas in Atomic. (One of my advisory friends introduced me to it and I gave it to our whole group.)
Honestly, mates aren't too important, just the main ones like Queen, Queen and Pawn vs Pawn should be good enough (at least for like 2300 I bet).

I have three suggestions. Firstly, learn one or two nasty openings as white and refine these whenever you lose as white. Secondly, learn the first two or three moves as black in the commonly played openings.

In the middle game piece activity is the key, especially rooks on open files. It is often worth sacrificing a rook or even a queen to get your rook into the opponent's camp. Once there, it should give you a win if the king is near the pawns or at least draw.

I assume you use Stockfish. The analysis from this program is almost always correct. Yo can check by playing what you think is a better move against the Stockfish analysis.

My own rating varies from 2050 to 2120 and I find it hard to get off that plateau.

When I wrote this, my rating was still 1950. But in 4 days my rating rose to 2000. It's because your tips.

So I say thank you for gave me some tips

(Btw, i use 1. nh3 h6 2. e3 or 1. nh3 f6 2. nc3 opening in the last 4 days . That's a good opening to increase the rating)
