Today's KIA (04/24/2015)
Unfortunate your opponent allowed the pawn fork! I thought the Re5->Rh5->Rh4 rather peculiar :) I think the 2 rooks were fine on the e-file, I was tempted to just open up with cxd5 and trade everything off, being up a piece and all :)
PeskyGnat, unfortunate?! I thought it was quite fortunate. Whose side are you on here?
Actually, I thought about 25.cxd5, but that would've given me an isolated d-pawn, and I thought he would recapture with the knight, preventing the rook trades and all . . . . I could've been wrong, of course.
Aspasa, 15.f4 might have been pretty good. I considered it too, but hesitated to open the diagonal to my king with his DSB still on the board.
Thank you both for the comments!
I 'fess I really like f4 in the KIA. [addicted one might say!]
In saner moments [when blacks DSB on the a7-g1 diagonal] I move Kh1 first but always know that this is a huge safety move regardless of timing :)
Ok ok, I'll concede that the pawn fork was a fortunate turn of events :)
But, back to 25. cxd5, if Black does play 25...Nxd5 (what you were expecting), you can actually trade off all the pieces, and win a pawn! Here is what I saw :
25...Nxd5
26. Bxd5 exd5
27. Rxe8+ Rxe8
28. Rxe8+ Kxe8
29. bxa4
And this position should be easily winnable by White, even without the outside passer at a4
PeskyGnat, you're right, I didn't look far enough ahead! I think I must've forgotten about my bishop on g2. Thanks.
kcsmith169, lots of stuff in your comments! How does that line with Qe1 go? I think I've seen Qe1 before, but didn't really understand it. Doesn't the queen get in the way of the king's rook? I do agree that 4.h3 ended up just wasting a tempo.
Looks like you're also right about 21.b3. Besides keeping his knight at bay, I was thinking I needed to face off with his queenside pawn storm. But I guess not.
I like your Be3, f4, Bf2, f5 idea also. It would have been interesting to see how Black dealt with that threat had I seen it. Thanks for all the good advice!
