The presence of peds has turned me off from track and field at an elite level, but it's still fun to watch. I'm rooting for the US women in the marathon, especially Kipyego. She has a cool story/background. I'd love to hear about other story lines or people to watch.
Tokyo Olympics 2021
I've often wondered how unnatural it is for these guys to be running such fast times, but I'm not sure if I can confidently link to to PEDs. Do you think the Ingebrigsten's are on PEDs?
Have you seen this discussion on Ingebrigsten? It brings up a lot of interesting stuff: https://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=9503663&page=2 There's an interesting discussion between Sage Canaday (a former Hanson-Brooks marathoner and a great mountain ultra runner in his day) and Mike Aish (a former Olympian from New Zealand), where they spend a good deal of time discussing PEDS in running, you can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LibfyRiEmsk My takeaway from the discussion is that PEDs are rampant, it's not too hard to get away with it, and that if something seems too good to be true, then it probably isn't.
I take any letsrun article with a pinch of salt. It's way too full of uneducated opinions and sore losers. However, I respect Sage and am a fan, so i'll try getting around to hearing his thoughts on peds.
Yeah, it's a good idea to add salt to just about everything on the internet. Sage was one of the coaches at a mountain running camp I attended several years ago, he was truly a humble and cool guy! There were other coaches and shoe reps who were basically racing one another at the front while Sage (who was by far the fastest of them all in the mountains) plodded along at the back chatting with us plebs.
With the Tokyo Olympics approaching that means we are going to start seeing athletes taking our sport (running) to its highest level. Which running events are you most interested in watching this year? I'm personally looking forward to the marathon and 1500m... I'm also disappointed Sir Mo Farah will not be participating in the 10,000m!
If you find any interesting news in relation to running in Tokyo 2021 please share it here.
Good luck over the chess board and on the trails!
