After you enter your USCF information,  when the time comes to play how do you enter the tourny?

For a little more clarification read the following:  http://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/uscf-verification-process

The US Chess staff completed a verification pass earlier today. They may do one more before the tourney tonight but they usually only do it once per day. Your account has not been verified at this point so if there are no problems with the information provided, then you should be verified by Monday.

All games played get rated. So, if you can only play one, that is fine.

No plans yet.

Why don't we have tournaments on weekends? I think more players will participate on the weekends.

The chess.com online rating is different from OB Quick/rapid and Blitz rating, correct?

Avatar of Martin_Stahl

They are different ratings. The chess.com ratings are for all games played in their respective pools on the site.

The USCF ratings for Online Blitz and Online Quick are for games played in the group tourneys here and the ones on ICC for those that play there. Those are separate from OTB ratings.

how can i get in to play tonight?

You have to go into Live on the web interface and then find the tourney on the tournament tab. Then click join.

do we have to be part of this group? Becuase I have sent a request to be part of this group and no reply yet.

I had to deny you from the group since you didn't allow notes or messages.

You did not provide all the required information when you just filled out the form. Without all of it, the USCF will not be able to verify you and you can't be in the group or play the events.

If you are asking about the results forums, the admin that normally does then has been busy. I'll get them soon if he doesn't.

You should use the site contact form to suggest requested byes. I know some people have but it wouldn't hurt to show that more people want it.  It is something they would add to all live tourneys.

As to your request for non-stop tourneys,  I don't think that will ever happen.

Avatar of Martin_Stahl

Anyone, anywhere can play in these events. The only requirements are that they purchase or already have an active membership to the USCF.

The other caveat is that since most USCF players as US-based,  the times of the tourneys are catered to that. I don't think there would be enough demand to have events outside of regular US hours.

how do you participate in uscf rated tournaments?

I hope I didn't miss this info somewhere else, but:

I saw that chess.com ratings are used for pairings. Is it Swiss pairing?

And what is the schedule for the rounds? (I only care about the 15|10 Friday tourneys, but others may have the same questions about Blitz.)

Assuming Swiss pairing, each round has to end before the next round's pairings can be made, so I imagine they have to follow some schedule. That's usually how it works in OTB Swiss tourneys. Do the 15|10 rounds start at the top of each hour or something?

Thanks.

The only scheduled tourneys are the ones in the forum, in the first post. Two on Monday,  one on Wednesday,  and one on Friday. The start times are listed.

They are paired as a swiss event and all rounds after the first are paired immediately after the last game completes (after a few seconds anyway). You have to be signed up at the beginning as currently there is no mechanism for late join.

This month we also have a special event that is handled differently and that information can be found in its own forum post: https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/january-special-event

Thanks. That sounds inconvenient though. What happens if my game finishes in 5 min., but then the last game of the round takes an hour? Then you have to have a scheduled start time for each round, just like any OTB Swiss tournament. Or everyone just has to stick around on chess.com and wait until summoned to the next round. I can't imagine that that arrangement will work well for anyone. Maybe I'm missing something, or maybe it just works out somehow. Sorry if I'm not seeing something obvious.

The tourneys use the site's automated system and have been running since March of last year.

I have no idea if there are any plans to have scheduled rounds in the future or not. We have had people finish early in the past and didn't make it back before the next round. Doesn't happen often though.

Overall,  it seems to work adequately.

Thanks again. Maybe I'll watch the first rounds of the one this evening to see how it goes before taking part in a later one.
