Hey Jeremy!

I am an intermediate player looking to improve in my opening against the Slav Defence. I have played the exchange and a Catalan-like setup in the past, but recently the Breyer variation has caught my eye ( 1 d4 d5 2 c4 c6 3 Nf3 Nf6 4 Nbd2 ).

Unfortunately, I have been unable to find many resources regarding this line, or any master level games to follow. I would appreciate any information you may have about this opening, whether that be a course suggestion or another piece of advice in general.

I look forward to improving thanks to your support!

Intermediate-level puzzle (1500-2000).

White to move and win. I thought this was a brilliant puzzle in a position that seemed gridlocked.

White to play and win
Hint: Don't overcomplicate it...

Another interesting puzzle:

Black to play and win
Hint: Again, don't overcomplicate it...

It appears in the Chessable course ($9.99). I don't own it so I can't give you any other game specifics.

Did you search for the FEN on chessable?

Searching on the Chessable site is a good idea I didn't think of.

My first search was at Forward Chess (https://forwardchess.com/position-search). I like their search tool as it helps you preview before buying. I am a big fan of what they are doing and how they make all kinds of texts into more interactive experiences. But I didn't find anything here.

Then, I put the FEN into https://my.chessvision.ai/. If you don't know this site, bookmark it.

How do you train for middle games? I seem to get into bad positions early on into the middle game and I don’t really know how to fix that other than playing more. In puzzle rush, I do survival and usually get somewhere in the 30’s. It might also be the opening that’s undoing me but I’m not sure.

Learning the Sicilian Najdorf currently and I can't understand how this position is better for black? (Black to move.) (-0.1) Can someone please explain

readeroftomes

@CactusGuy, IMO the recent trade of queens greatly helped Black. I'm not sure that was the best play. The trade allowed Black to reach e4 as an outpost to hit both the g3-pawn and the Rook. White will have a difficult time forcing it out.

It is hard to see how White will quickly improve its position. The b3-bishop is blocked, and the semi-open f-and h-files are not easy to utilize. Black will probably claim the open d-file soon.

While still defendable, the position is more straightforward to play as White.

I'd be interested in what others think about move #19 (Qe4). What is White's best reply here?

I could ask Stockfish, but I'd like to hear what others think.
