I like this, although wouldn't it be possible for one side to commit a crazy queen mate? Such as,
Checkmate
pawns are basically god in this gamemode
opponent must sacrifice a piece to stop a passed pawn
if the king captures it becomes a knight and black loses???
in 4 player chess, we sometimes have rated custom variants that the "royal" piece is a random piece, there was even once a variant that the queen was the royal piece. In other words, When the king takes the knight, it can still be the piece that gets checkmated, but it can be a "royal" knight.
