V3 - Forum updating problems?

Avatar of Fabio656

Hi, i have noticed that there are some problems with the updating of the topics, and a similar problem in the "most recent" box.

In the "most recent" box a lot of topics with a new message, dont appears.

Look, this topic is an example (where i posted), but is the same for the majority of the topics in the forum;

Thank you!

We have a ticket in about this now!

I had put one in as well.

Today, after gathering evidence from a sizeable sample of members, I suspect the problem depends on the OS of the user. Windows 10 users are having problems but Apple iOS users may be ok. Not entirely sure about Android, ipad v Mac, One Linux user said they observed the bug.

To be frank, I am surprised this wasn't solved by reverting to code that was working as little as a week ago.

Ironically, this post is not visible in the forum list, of course!

As an experiment, I am now posting from Android (actually an Amazon Kindle, a sort of pseudo-Android).

(Edit - the result of the experiment is that the bug is occurring from this device too).

Thanks! I appreciate your help

I use Android ... and i have this problem.

Sorry, I have to correct an earlier statement of mine in the notes. Posts get updated correctly in Windows 10 if you use V2 instead of V3.

They seemed to updating correctly across the board today. Are you still having issues?

Avatar of Elroch

Yes, exactly the same problems even now, three days later. No posts are getting registered from V3. Many other people continue to have the same problem, and it is easy to reproduce (as it happens all the time).

[Posted from V2, of course]

The problem is still here

A thing that makes this bug worse is that although I switched to V2 to bump this forum 7 hours ago, once Fabio had posted from V3, the thread was listed as having been last posted to 11 days ago!

In a relatively active group, this can mean that discussions are moved so far down the list that people have great trouble finding them even if they look

An odd observation this morning. Using V3, posts in Open Discussion group exhibited the bug (not bumping the forum list) but a post in Off Topic forum worked fine. This is the first time for a couple of weeks any post has worked right from V3.

The issues noticed by Elroch above are still not fixed. The current behavior of V3 in group forums is abhorrent. After my post #23 here:

https://www.chess.com/groups/forumview/runaway-download-on-chess-com-main-page?page=2

the topic moved down to page 4, in both V3 and V2. This is the snapshot of what V3 is displaying: while the number of posts is correct, the alleged date is the date when the topic was started.

Once someone posts from V3, it also breaks the display in V2, which now does the same trick of hiding new posts to where they cannot be possibly found by anyone except for the people following the threads:

I am reverting back to the habits from the days when V3 was in a really poor shape: use concurrently two browsers, one in V2 (for social interaction in groups), and one in V3 (everything else).

And indeed, the top of the list of topics looks OK now, until someone posts there from V3 again:

You are probably too polite to say this but, for the large number of people who use chess.com forums to a significant degree, V3 is in really poor shape. [posted from V2 to avoid concealing this topic].

Should be better now! Please let me know.

Avatar of Elroch

Well, this is a good place to start testing.

Great work - everything is fine now!

[Fingers crossed that won't need an edit when I actually check.  wink.png]

Glad to hear that.

Fortunately, my trust was well placed.
