Variant Archers 10 x 10

yes, chess.com does not have very many of the divergent-move pieces, the only ones that we have are pawn and berolina. i think adding more divergent-movers would be cool.

I think the archer is a nice idea, but it seems too complex to be added, although it's not much different from riders

Nice variant! Although I don't like the fact that castling is called defense, I like how unique the piece is! I hope @ChimpReturns adds this piece as the Þ piece.

I am delighted that you like the variant.
A note of clarification:
The movement and ways of capturing the Archer are protected by me in the intellectual property registry.
If you use a piece with the same characteristics you would have to talk to me first as a precaution.
Best regards

A is already occupied by Amazon, so we’d likely need to find another letter for it
How about Archers being a ?
Hello everyone.
I present you the other variant that I also have registered since March 2021.
In order to introduce the Archers in the variant 10 x 10, I have modified the dimensions of the board, adding two columns on the right (I, J) and two rows on the side of the black pieces (9, 10).
This modification gives rise to a board that stops having 8 x 8 squares to become 10 x 10, like checkerboards.
It maintains some basic laws of the game:
- The symmetry given to it by the square.
- The position of the board with the white square in the right corner.
- Situation of the Queen in the square of her color next to the King.
POSITION ON THE BOARD
The Archers stand next to the King and Queen, reinforcing the protection with the Bishops.
MOVING THE PIECE
The movement of the Archers is the same as that of the Bishops, diagonally.
It is a "magic piece", since it combines a double power.
WAY TO CAPTURE
The Archer, when capturing an opponent's piece, can do so as the Bishop does, but also has the power to capture (always diagonally) by jumping one or more pieces OF THE SAME COLOR US HIM, making the archer a very useful piece for defending the king at long range.
With this possibility of capturing an opponent's piece, overcoming the intermediate pieces of his color, I wanted to make a simile of the trajectory of the arrow in the shape of a parabola when it is shot by an archer tilting his bow slightly upwards.
In the picture, the Archer threatens Axc8
If you have two enemy pieces at close, capture the first one you have on the diagonal.
Naturally, if the Archer's piece aim is the King, it is considered check. This maneuver is very valuable, both in attack and in endings to obtain checkmate.
THE DEFENSE OR CASTLING
However something has changed slightly with the addition of new squares and pieces.
Castling the King is no longer short castling and long castling, but short defense and long defense.
This new name is given because there is a change in the way in which the King and the castle exchange places.
I have believed it essential to respect as far as possible the final position of the King when making defenses.
As a consequence of adding two more squares, I had to move both Queens from square D to F so that they were still next to the King and of course in its color, which has caused a change in the direction of the flanks at the time of executing a defense.
SHORT DEFENSE
The King moves three squares and the Rook two, leaving the king one square from the corner (as in conventional castling).
- The short defense is carried out on the left flank of the white pieces and on the right of the black pieces.
LONG DEFENSE
The King must move three squares and the Rook also three, so that the King is two squares from the corner (similar to the result of long castling).
- The long defense is executed on the right flank of white and on the left of the black pieces.
The algebraic notation of the Archer is the letter A and is valid for English and Spanish.
It would be an honor if chess.com considerer incluying it in their app.
