that's a pretty bad state for the variants server. Implementing spell chess clearly was really ambitious, they probably didn't consider if the server could take it well
variants server is not ok

Spell chess has great prospects to return some of the popularity that variants had pre-merge, but with the amount of lag that the server currently holds I'm starting to think otherwise.

idk mate variants been completley fine for me.
and did you even at least try the support advice? never know until you try. I've tried and it usually helps a ton with laoding anything

I've been playing on 4 Player Chess and Variants for 5 years. The server crashes are very much real and I would be surprised if clearing cache (which mind you, I do every day) would solve an issue that hundreds of people faced at the same time.

clear example of someone who doesn't have the foggiest idea of what they are saying and are just saying it because they can

On the topic of variants and 4 player chess:
Does anyone know why they merged 4 player chess and variants and swapped the location of the king and queen? I was top 50 in Teams for a bit before the merge and when they swapped the position of the king and queen, I quit because it looked like all my opening moves became obsolete.

That's what we've wondered for the last 2 years.
The server's been restarting for a full 40 minutes, surely chess.com needs to learn from their mistakes and put more support into Variants??? We have a grand total of 2 developers working on the server and its been that way for many years now, and the server was fine until the Spell Chess update, which miraculously returned a year's worth of bugs.
Usually Variants has around 700-900 people online at any given time, and recently it's been 1500. But what will happen to those new people once they find out about the quality of the server? Will it matter that Variants has a bunch of unique features? Yeah, no.
Seriously. Live Chess got $2M when it was overloading. There's a real reason why people say Variants is dead. (And don't be that support.chess.com guy who told me to clear my cache. Go see the server for yourself sometime and play 5-10 games. It's not fun)
