Vote Chess: Vote Tie - What happens??

What happens when on a vote chess board there is a tie in the voting??

For example:

1 vote for Qc2

1 Vote for Ke2

Which does the computer pick?

Can you ever manually override a vote for some reason??  Maybe someone voted in error and it effected to team vote.

In case of a tie the later vote decides.

I don't know, if there is a possibilty to take back a move. It would be contradictory to the special rule, that votes are hidden, unless you already did vote yourself. 🐰

In case of a tie, last vote wins.

No - a vote cannot be overridden or changed.

Last vote will be automatically chosen.

And on a slightly different subject - if you want to have a winning team, establish Club Vote Chess Guidelines in the club's forum. You need to follow these two guidelines/rules.

1. Discuss possible moves in the comments section below the board, until the clock reaches 24 hours or less. Nobody votes before the clock hits 24 hours.

2. Nobody votes for a move that has not been mentioned in the comments. If somebody comes up with an idea for a new or crazy move, they MUST mention it in the comments in order for everyone else in the team to comment on it. Once the clock runs out and the votes are totaled, there should not be any votes for a move that was never mentioned.

When someone breaks one of those two rules, the Vote Chess leader sends them a DM message and politely tells them that they have violated the club vote guidelines (which they have probably never read). That DM might include a link to the guidelines in the club's forum. If they keep breaking the rules (cause some of them who have not read the guidelines also never read their DM's) they are booted from that game.

This plan will produce a winning vote team if it is followed.

Chess Vote Tie at 'Votes Tallied, 0 secs left on your Cub's clock'; Chesscom protocols 'LATEST VERSION' as of <24 hrs in one of MY club's VC: It 'decides' based on the last vote 'entered', time to 'decide' basis. For example (a DIRECT one in my recent VC: Member voted for- a move, I voted LATER for MY choice for move... Chesscom 'decided', MY MOVE entry: WON, as vote was a full ONE hour after, 'the other guy'.

Been in Chesscom 11+ years now, VC Tie votes protocols, have varied, like a weather vane 'in a shifting wind': Earliest VOTE, decides Ties, then Last VOTE decides, then earliest VOTE decides, yadayadayada. As OF: Aug. 9,2025- It's last vote: decides.

The system is supposed to select the most recent vote because that vote is expected to be the best-educated vote. This was put into effect many years ago when the membership petitioned the website to make it so.

However, I have seen cases recently where this criterion was not the case.

Has anybody else seen this?

Avatar of SatBchMagicer

@wormrose : YES, I've seen it TOO many times, the LAST vote is NOT 'best educated one', as almost ALL of 'them', waited to last 24 hrs of a 3-day Vote Chess (VC) match, to review ALL of the posts from the first 48 hrs, BEFORE casting their vote. 'They' DON'T want to wait 'until near the end', so they won't miss out due to 'couldn't/didn't logon before..'.

In almost ALL cases I've seen lately, I play in a lot of different clubs VCs, have done so for many years now, the last/later votes are USUALLY cast by some <1100 rated, VC newbie, with SOME of those votes being for a move that would LOSE the VC!!

@SatBchMagicer - In the beginning, it was the move voted first that the system would select, but that would favor those who play blitz with a three-day time control. Clearly not a good choice. So a bunch of us ganged up on the website and got them to change it. Not a perfect solution, but a better one. I've been playing Vote Chess at this website for eighteen years, and I have not witnessed the degree of vacillation in system choices you are describing. Sometimes I have even seen the system select the move with fewer votes. But not very often.

Sounds like you've been playing in some totally undisciplined VC clubs. Take a look at JustADude80's comment above. These principles will make a much bigger difference in the outcome than what the system selects in the event of a tie. I personally will not play in undisciplined clubs.

There are two types of vote chess: Random Vote Chess and Intelligent Vote Chess. Clubs with disciplined teams will always find better moves.

Cooperation + Communication + Camaraderie = Teamwork = How to win at Vote Chess

@wormrose : I've been playing in MANY, then teams, now Clubs, VCs for almost 11 YEARS now. All of the teams/clubs I REMAIN(ed) a member of BECAUSE they KNOW how proper VCs ARE played: Only 3-day rule ones (with rare agreed to beforehand 2-dayers, NEVER <2 days- how CAN any team/ club- adequately COMMUNICATE proposed MOVES??, and then ONLY vote last 24 hrs ONLY!! THEN await VC clock time out to SEE what move WAS chosen.

PLEASE, do NOT presume- 'Sounds like (I've) been playing in some totally UNDISCIPLINED VC clubs', you have a Club, NOW ready? to 'mano-a-mano' in a TIGHT VC? Msg me!!

Lastly, you hint at a possible, where IT, started to 'go wrong', some Cc members 'ganged up on the website and GOT them to change it'... twas thus the 'start' of Cc Staff 'mucking up A LOT of what used to make the Team side of Cc SPECIAL, days of yore, long gone, BEFORE the DELUGE of mostly CRAPOLA: Video game SPEED RACER chess, not a think/then move strategic 'combat' game, lasting for more than a milennium NOW, such that a player in 1025, would STILL recognize the development of HIS game, now, but WOULD be BEWILDERED by 'today' emphasis on Let's 'get er done' in minutes, I got texts on my cell WAITING!, 'versions'!!
