yes
We Should Have Circular Chess (or other board shapes)

How will the pawn move? Or Bishop?
To make these you probably will have to code, or it will be pre-set (which I don't think is a good idea).
And it will be just, chaos.
I was thinking about custom pieces (you can make a custom piece with the movements you decide) but that would be hard as well.
So I don't think we can have other board shapes in custom variants until someone puts bunch of effort to it, which is not likely as custom variants is not really worked on as much as the other things.

I don't think it will be complete chaos but you could post some more ideas.

Oh yeah try to make a pattern using hexagons or triangles, and then you will need to implement custom movements for each piece. It would be really hard, maybe not complete chaos but you would need to make a whole new code, or possibly change the whole code to make it. Did you know why the other site doesn't add bughouse variant? Because their code doesn't support more than two boards, and they would need to implement a whole new code, which would be challenging a lot. So maybe we can have it, but not in chess.com in my opinion.
(Sorry if this sounds offending)

This actually sounds like a cool idea. There would probably be some type of room piece or something that moves up to an amount of spaces along the edge of the board to replace something like pawn or bishop (toast mentioned lolol) but I think this could be a nice idea

There are definitely more than a few that have custom / bespoke / irregular boards.
Can you clarify exactly what you mean by circular boards tho , do you mean the shape or the structure or the effect of going round back to the beginning?
The chess modders ( mainly all stand alone designers )are all making these kind of tweaks , all of the time. I am one of them.

It’s probably better for circular chess to be its own dedicated game rather than joined with the variants on chess.com. Obviously, all the variants here assume a board made with squares, because it’s easier that way. It’s so that the developers have an easier time programming it, and the players have an easier time understanding it. It would be interesting to see though

I (kind of) made circular chess. https://www.chess.com/variants/custom

Okay, but it may not be as popular as other variants (especially spell chess, crazyhouse and bughouse).

Not a circular board, BUT AN INFINITE BOARD!!! https://www.infinitechess.org/play
This would actually be an amazing collab!
Chess.com is the biggest chess site in the world. Yet, we don't have circular chess. We even have old versions of chess, like Chaturaji & Chaturanga. GreenChess.net has circular chess that we could mimic here on chess.com. It could also open up the world for custom variants. I am pretty new to the custom variants community, or the variants community in general, so I am not very qualified to talk about how we could implement circular chess. We could also try other board shapes. CGP Grey has a great video of hexagonal chess on YouTube. (YouTube Video Link) Like I mentioned before, I am not very qualified to talk about this subject. But I would love to see different board shapes in chess variants.
To sum up, I feel like different board shapes are not mentioned enough. It is okay if we can't have different board shapes. I am just proposing the idea to everyone. That's about it. Make sure not to be judgy of others' opinions when talking about this or anything else.
