It’s just default chess
Weird variant
it is casual (not rated) exclusively. I think it is merely present for the sake of completism.
It's also so that in the case that someone deletes all custom gamerules from a game, it just says "Chess" instead of whatever the code would recognize the position as otherwise
Actually, its just a completely useless way to play casual chess with a different rating (Which is basically like free sandbagging, xecpt it doesnt affect anything becuase its casual)
Variants are special games that DO NOT follow the rules of normal chess. How can normal chess be a variant? Casual chess is something anyone can play, at least if they have a board and an opponent. You don't need to play on this site, you can just play it physically. Someone should delete that variant and make it a separate option in the 'Play' tab. It can technically not be called a variant!

And we never said that it is a variant. As I explained, it’s just a placeholder. What else are we going to call default chess?

When I go in the variants lobby I see a variant marked with a white pawn and called "chess". It is just like regular chess but somehow a variant. The description just says "standard chess". Do any of you know what this is?
