there's no "manage members" option
What are the roles for admins vs. coordinators? Explained.

there's no "manage members" option
The Manage Members option has been removed and modified as it falls under Manage club.

Isn't one super-admin designated a "founder" and therefore not subject to demotion or removal?
We encountered this issue last year, as one super-admin expressed a desire to step down. When he attempted to do so, even his own attempts to demote himself failed and were met with error messages. The staff were needed to make the change. We received the answer that that super-admin had been designated as the founder of the club, even though he did not establish the club originally. The designation of "founder" had somehow wound up with him.
Does this still hold true today?

Yes. If you are the group owner you can’t even leave the group unless you transfer ownership to another super admin.

how do you make someone the owner?

If you go to members in your team in the same way you promote someone you have the option to make them owner. If you make them into SA you’ll also have the option to make owner

Now that's surprising, because the super-admin who stepped down found himself unable to make someone else the owner. If it were that simple, one would think he wouldn't have needed to have involved the staff, as he did. This was about two or so years ago.

3 years ago when I was around anyone could do what they like there was no transferring ownership or anything so an owner could come and go. I am assuming here but this only came about since V3 kicked in. I wasn’t on the site when V3 was rolled out so I’m only assuming here.

Admins cannot alter note walls and club introductions.
In other words admins cannot alter the 'headers' above notes -
and cannot alter private nor public descriptions.
Which means coordinators can't either. As they are below admins in the hierarchy.
If a superadmin or admin wishes to demote himself/herself without 'assistance'
that can be done by quitting.
You could then ask to get back in. (at least two ways to get back in)
Example of self-demote:
You quit both the admin HQ club and the main club.
If you only quit the HQ club - you will still have admin buttons in the main club.
Many people don't realize this.
Regarding Club Owner - to demote yourself - you promote somebody else to Club Owner.
That is the only way.
Unless chess.com does it for you !
Which does happen.
Its quite a situation when club owners are absent.
And even moreso when it isn't clear who the owner is.
'Group' owner? 'Team' owner?
If I've got this wrong - somebody please correct me.
What are the different club roles?
Clubs are a great way to meet new players with your same interests, and to participate in club matches, vote chess, and more! There are several roles with different abilities you can use to manage your club.
Club Roles
Coordinator
A coordinator can create a Club Match, create a Club Tournament, or start a new Vote Chess. Coordinators do not have the ability to promote, ban, add or otherwise manage members.
Below are the club management options a Coordinator has:
Admin
The Admin role has all the abilities of the Coordinator, plus can write News posts, and invite, ban, demote and promote members (Admins can not promote to Super Admin, and can not ban or demote Super Admins. See this article for steps on replacing an inactive super admin)
See the Admin club management options below:
Super Admin
The Super Admin has all the abilities of the Admin and Coordinator, in addition they can edit the club, remove closed accounts, and promote other users to Super Admins. The member who created the club is the first Super Admin, and the only one who can create other Super Admins. All Super Admins have the ability to demote and remove other Super Admins! So be careful who you choose to promote!
