What is the rating system doing?
The site uses the Glicko rating system that includes a measure of rating uncertainty called the rating deviation (RD) value. That determines the rating change for each player.

So, that's not to be unexpected and isn't a bug

Oh, ok, thanks.

They don't have many Rapid games and haven't played any for 4 months. Gaps in play in a pool cause the RD value to increase and a lower number of games is also going to have a higher RD value.

It would be nice if Chess.com would show our RD for each rating type. (Rapid, Blitz, etc.) I think it used to long ago, and I know it is available through API calls.
BONUS Feature request: If we could get our potential ratings change as a tooltip before we accept a challenge and/or have a tool that showed what our potential rating change is vs various opponents when we look at their profile or the little profile pop up whenever we click on their userid. That would be cool

I won my game and noticed my lower-rated opponent lost 32 points while I gained only 12.
