Who Hates V3 the MOST? (Contest maybe...?)

I would love to hear any concrete examples of how Clubs or USChessLeague are at all different.

Spacebux

Player participation rates are way down since v3 came to be.

Only one club I know has been able to sustain and slightly grow in the wake of the switch to v3.  The other 5 have all seen player dissipation---lack of participation in matches, lack of new players coming in to the groups/clubs.

At least in v2, players coming to chess.com had a prayer to find a path in to joining appropriate groups.  Now, with "clubs" burried deep in the menu path, there's next to no chance.

You killed the social aspect of chess.com.  Once you cut the umbilical chord, there's no need for the kids to come back.

many admins can't navigate their way around, some can't even find their alerts...

Spacebux

It's darn near impossible to find Vote Chess game alerts in v3.   I'm surprised teams can even play it these days.

Spacebux

In v2, everything was either in the yellow-bg box to the upper-right corner of the v2 landing page, or 2-quick scrolls down to the main message are to find EVERYTHING.

In v3, we have to not only click on the 'Alert' icon to see the alerts, we also still need to scroll through the Alert box 5~6x more.  And, no, I'm like chess_kebabs, I don't want to see Friend Requests listed at the top---that's hardly critical information / action item.

I'm using the classic settings in V3 and my page isn't like that. Check my Homepage screenshot below.

In the right side alert box below (Club Activity) is a complete list of all VC and forum alerts very easy to scroll through the list just like V2. Is your home page different ??

Spacebux, 10 days ago, in the Petition to keep old.chess.com alive blog, you have posted a screenshot of your own home page with vote chess alerts clearly visible below the friend requests (see the red arrow). I am not sure that this makes them difficult to find.

As to your other points, I agree -- the spacing between the items seems excessive; it should be possible to set up preferences to get rid of the icons and fit more info without having to scroll. And it should be possible to set your own order in which the the alert categories are displayed, so that really important things are on top, and friend requests at the bottom, for example.

This is because (perhaps because of being used to V2), you keep your menu on top. I also find the clicking on the little bell thingy annoying, which is why I use my menu on the left.

With the menu on the left, there is no bell thingy to click. Instead, you just need to move your mouse cursor over the chess.com icon, and it pops up a sub-menu with all alerts -- no clicks needed (although you do need to move the cursor over). On most monitors, there is space for about 20 items to be displayed there -- so it is rare that scrolling is needed. Below is a snapshot from my monitor, with space for about 30 items (admittedly, I use a large beast of a monitor, but even on my tiny Macbook Air, there is space for about 15-16 items.

I disagree about "everything". The new topics posted in your group produced in V2 an alert like this one:

null

The "View" link was rather useless; all it did was send one to the forum page of the club, e.g., in the above example you'd end up on the https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/chess-com-developer-community page, where it would be up to you to figure out what is new (and in active groups, new topics might not be near the top -- old, active topics would push them down).

In V3, you get a vastly superior link to the new topics, like this:

null

Here, you can judge which topic is most interesting, and go there first. In V2, there was not enough information to do so.

particularly when using a mobile... the little bell is obscured by that stupid green bar...

The screen shot I had was a 'lucky' one in that I had no other 'Alerts' pushing those Vote chess game notifications to the bottom of the list.  Otherwise, look at Cmdr_Riker's screen shot and notice the scroll bar that must be utilized to review all the alerts before deciding which to undertake.

A typical day for me has alerts up the whazzoo (sp?) and scrolling is a necessary evil for me.

In v2 the yet unclicked alerts are still often visible (not visible in the Online Games page, e.g., but visible in Team Group pages), I don't believe that is the same in v3 unless I'm mistaken.

And, yes, that was a known issue for years with v2, that the links to forum posts did not take one in to the direct forum thread.  One either had to scroll down to find the correct link in the landing page, or one had to search for the updated forum threads.  This issue was known and ignored in favor of development of v3.

Both Merriam-Webster and Oxford spell it "wazoo."

Spacebux

Thank you, Wayne.  I was too lazy to go spell-check it.

Lawdoginator

Go Spacebux! Give em hell!  (I hate V3 the most, by the way).

Spacebux

Anyone care to explain this screen / message ???

no indication of what it's in reply to?

Spacebux

I made a move in a daily/online game.  I pressed Commit, and that's the screen I got thrown back at my browser.

wayne_thomas

"I pressed Commit, and that's the screen I got thrown back at my browser."

Maybe you could try pressing "Submit" instead.

erik

If you are in the "beta" club, you may get those kinds of errors. And even if you are not, you might also get errors from time to time
