CGA's, why do you need us to do testing games when you test them youself

TheChessDude991

Do you expect the CGA's to analyze every single random position anyone makes? That's not their job. You're saying that you just want to spend 2 minutes in the position editor and then say "test this"?! If you really want your position to be listed, you'll put some quality work into it, and not just barf up random crazy positions for the CGA's to analyze.

Agreed. It's our job to keep variant play exciting, fair, and fun. For that reason, we like to add custom positions that are worth playing. It makes things more difficult for us when every player who finds the position editor just throws nonsense positions at us and expects us to devote serious consideration and testing time at it.

At the end of the day, if it's too much to ask that you play your own game 15 times, is it really worth asking us to list it for others to play? I think not.

Our job is to look at your position and decide whether or not it deserves to be listed/featured in the WOF tournament. Your job is to optimize the position before you submit it because we usually won't offer suggestions when your position is flawed and instead we will decline it. The point of games testing by the author is so that if the game is flawed, they can rework it and submit their best work instead of a rough draft of a position (most authors don't actually change their position... which is why the acceptance rate currently is so low). Even the most brilliant position authors cannot get it right on their first try; there is always much editing involved. So please try and improve on your position before you submit it. It also prevents extremely unpopular positions from being submitted because if no one wants to play it, you will not get test games. Additionally, there have been some really silly positions submitted, and the required testing games will typically deter the people who are just submitting a position to brag about being a position creator (more common than you'd think...) instead of putting effort into making a good position. On another note, if you are really invested in your position, five games are no different from fifteen (the number was increased because of an abundance of low-effort/low-quality positions).
