Why do You Read a Blog?

What makes a blog appealing to you?

What kind of blogs do you like? Chess and non-chess related.

What compels you to leave a comment in a blog?

Do you like reading blogs in general? If you don't, I think you should reconsider, especially if you write a blog yourself and want to improve at blogging, getting new ideas, and become part of a community where everybody can help each other.

If you have other good questions on the topic I will later add them here in the first post of the thread.
If we understand what we like in other blogs it would also help us to blog better, in case we already do it or plan to do it in the future.

Because I like to know about other people's opinions, and sometimes I learn things from them.

I usually comments only when I feel the blogger has really tried hard to make it great. So I try to inspire them by writing "Good blog" as I personally feel that simple two words can make a huge difference.

@matbellanas36, I think we all have to learn a lot from each other! happy.png

Time to answer myself.

I read blogs because it's entertaining, and I know more about other people. I cannot read blogs with lots of diagrams, like I have problems reading chess books that are all diagrams. Maybe this will change over time, when I start understanding diagrams better, and get less overwhelmed when facing one. I know, I am a chess player, diagrams should not make me anxious, but what can I do? I try to do it slowly.
That's why I love blogs where improving ideas are shared. I often know the most of them, yet it helps a lot to see them clearly written, another time, with other words.

I think it helps if the blog is easy to skim, maybe there is an intro I am not super interested in, and I want to go to the core. Using bold, italic, and
TITLES
in the right way could help making reading easier. Also

  • spacing,
  • new paragraphs
  • bullet points

are a good help there.

I leave comments... especially when I see some potential. I force me sometimes to leave a comment, because I know how much I love to get feedback and like to do the same that would like to receive. I mean, if a blog is difficult to read but I like the message I try to read it till the end and leave a comment. Sometimes I leave the critic for a message, instead of leaving it in the blog.
Of course I also leave comments when I love what I read. I try to share something, an idea, an encouragement, a question. I think very interesting discussion could come to life! If I simply say "nice blog" there can be no big dialog.

There's surely more to say, but... in case I will add it later grin.png
