Why is dms requiring a Captcha now?

I saw this when checking dms:

Apparently, you can’t send dms without filling out the human verification Captcha…why is this happening? Also, can staff fix this, or will it be a permanent feature?

It should protect the site from bots when there is unusually much spam. It’s temporary.
