Why isn't Bullet more popular?

There are so few players for it any more.  When I first joined two years ago you could get a Bullet game within minutes at any time throughout the day.  Now they are rarer and rarer.

I get why new players would avoid it, but why don't experienced players join it more?  In my opinion it's the best version of the game, no long pauses/stalls and much more reliant on working with others.  Blitz is fun, but even then there is lot of passive hoarding that makes games move slowly. And sitting for 3 minutes while someone flags is the absolute worst.

For these reasons I don't even play the normal "Rapid" version.  I just have too many other things I need to do throughout the day, so getting a game in here and there with the time I have lends itself perfectly to bullet.  But alas, there are rarely any players...

Thoughts?

IDK why bullet isn't popular anymore, but do you have time on Fridays?

Never mind about the club I advertised. The schedule is undergoing massive changes and I don't think it's the best idea to advertise.

Have a good day!

bullet is fast paced, chess isn't supposed to be quick time events.

before the merge you could see more bullet players playing 2500 to 2600 queues but after the merge many of those players left 4pc and due to that people often don't get queues. The last high rated bullet game played by me was about 2 or 3 months ago. If you see the leaders of bullet you can see 20# position with 2400. Before the merge the bullet leaders started from 2600 onwards. I guess after the merge the server issues made the players quit 4pc.

yup, the merge made all versions of 4pc less popular, but the ones that suffered the most are the ones that already had a small playerbase, especially bullet.

  1. "There are so few players for it any more. When I first joined two years ago you could get a Bullet game within minutes at any time throughout the day. Now they are rarer and rarer."That's the merge doing its work, like Kongi and Typewriter have mentioned before me.
  2. "...why don't experienced players join it more?"TL;DR: Because there's no competition, and it's not worth the risk to join any remotely low rated queues.
The 2600+ players have remained relatively the same throughout the last few years; whenever I play bullet or hyperbullet, it's against the exact same people, and perhaps the only thing that's changed is the rankings of each of the players as everybody improves up to a certain point. I joined a 1900+ game a month back, got 3rd due to opponents throwing (yes, in 1|1. throwing in speed chess is not a myth.), and lost 14 points off of my 2800+ rating. I didn't have fun in the game, nor did I improve, so it was a waste of time more than anything like rating, in the end.

Good responses, I guess I see why now. It's just sad though. This used to be the most entertaining way to play in my opinion, but it's almost completely extinct.

I want to play bullet but as no high queues are going i join 1900 and thus my rating just goes down. Before the merge I was 2500 and now went to 2400. As GS said we get to play the same high rated players as others have quited. mostly all those players are not available to play on a same time that's why I can't even increase my ratings and have eventually left 4pc now.

Just as others have mentioned, many old players left 4pc for the merge. I first came to 4pc back in 2020, and in that time all time formats were popular, you could play any format at any time of the day. But after the merge, everything seemed dull to me. That's why I stopped playing it. Now, I can't enjoy any 4pc game as before.

I mean, the entire motto of variants is to play the game how you want, and it takes skill in slow time controls to be good at fast time controls too

This is an ignorant comment. Try it before you judge.

everyone playing bullet isn't even that good at 4pc, so no pros are motivated to play it
