Bogolyubov in online chess
Interest in chess has been growing tremendously every year since the introduction of internet chess servers or ICS. Chess servers like the Internet Chess Club and chess.com, among others, create a global community of chess enthusiasts playing and interacting online and form chess organizations and subgroups based on citizenship, social interests, or openings. At chess.com, a player by the username Yigor, or Igor Potemin(e) in real life and a professor of pure mathematics in Toulouse III University in France, is the organizer and leader of an online group called the Bogolyubov Variations.
The Bogolyubov Variations host thematic tournaments and team match ups in the Bogo-Indian Defence regularly. It also promotes and moderates forum discussions pertaining to the chess legacies of Bogolyubov, particularly, the French: Winawer-Bogolyubov, Bogo-Nimzo-Scandinavian, Bogo-Nimzo-Indian, and Bogo-Indian Defences.
It looks like our group and the organizer have their footprints laminated already in the annals of chess history.
