they can. they are grasshoppers.

The unique thing about grasshoppers is that they are the only royals that can check each other without being in check themselves, due to their unconventional movement definition. This is not the place to argue about the rules of the game; do not post anything unless you have a meaningful contribution relating to the position and either looked at the example games or tested/analyzed the position yourself.

Now back to the actual position. Seems like an interesting idea, probably good although I do have some ideas for improvement: It's probably better if you make it more asymmetric and I am not sure if this really qualifies as WOF, maybe change the time control to 1/2|0. Since it is a WOF, it will probably get accepted anyway, just a few suggestions

i asked the same Q

they cant do it, play with em

The grasshoppers CAN check each other. They jump over a wall orbpiece and land net to it. I played this, it is fun, and i disagree to add capture the king.

This is ridiculous. for some reason, the insert image function isn't working, so allow me to present something in a less graphic way.

| G |    |    | W | G |

G = Grasshopper, W = Wall, | = boundary between squares. As you can see, the red G is attacking the blue G through the wall, but it is not being attacked because grasshoppers do not have fixed movement; their mobility is based on their surroundings, which are not always symmetrical. Now there is no reason to get everything wrong on the first try; before yelling out your opinion, make sure to check the facts. If you don't want to go to the fairy pieces introduction page,

There is a magical thing called example games

Which, clearly, none of you have looked at. Even if you have analyzed the position, you should still look at the example games to see if you are missing something. If you aren't going to look at the games that the author spent time playing, then you shouldn't be posting in these threads.

I actually meant to say that there are no RANDOS, not zombies. If a player resigns or runs out of time, they will move randomly across the board, just like a zombie. Also, the time control can be changed based off of people's opinions. I like it to be 1 min.

Avatar of noahfavelo

you could change the fen4 to be (not actual code )    (ZombieType "checker" )    and that would make it so that if you resigned then you would be a checker.

lol idk

A Checker zombie would be too strong. Also, I've  noticed something with the Checker. Once it checks a specific royal piece, it will keep checking that piece forever. It will NOT go check another piece unless by accident. I may be wrong, but that's what I've noticed. A classic Rando would do.

Avatar of noahfavelo

yea but a grasshopper usually dosent have a lot of choice on when and who it wants to check.

Good starter idea.

However, the problem we see here is that if a player times-out (how most of these games will end), the game considers it an insufficient material draw; The player who times-out won't forfeit, he'll just split the remaining points with the player who doesn't time-out. This means that a player could just jump back and forth in the corner, avoiding play to save up time, then after someone gets a checkmate, could just time-burn his way into a draw for 1st place.

Maybe for improvement, consider making it a 3-player game, with some sort of way to farm points off of a bot, ensuring that the points won't be tied between 2 or 3 players at the end. For now though,

Avatar of noahfavelo

how about scattering a few pawns on the board. - that could prevent a draw.

How about if green is a Checker?
