Utilizing 'live' grades makes perfect sense, unfortunately in the real world they are only as accurate as the speed and validity of the recording... To be fair, most results are up on Chessnuts within a week (usually a couple of days) and grades should be reliably accurate (a great deal more accurate than ECF). From a team standpoint, it would be the captain's responsibility to check grades; from a tournament view, the controller would alter an individual's grade prior to commencement.

To my mind 'live' grades are only a conversation 'ice-breaker'. In handicap tournaments, we either provide a list of grades( on paper or on line) at the start, then everyone is on an equal par, those with computers have no advantage; or the competition controller fills in the handicap on receipt of match cards.

Last year, I played in the Examiner, captains filled in cards and both teams knew what was required. Somehow I feel interest will dwindle when mystery enters the equation.

In the Clough, 'live' grades could be of use for ungraded players (within the rules, though).
