On June 29, 2024, the Oceanside Chess Club will be hosting the First Annual Oceanside Rapid tournament. The event will be held at St. Marks Church, located at 138 Hoylake Road West, Qualicum Beach. The format will be a 6-round unrated Swiss system. The time control will be 20 minutes with a 5-second increment. Food and drinks will be available for purchase throughout the day. Doors open at 9 a.m., and the tournament will conclude at 5 p.m. with the awards ceremony. Prizes will be determined by attendance for the first, second, third, and best-performing junior (14 and under). Entrance is $20 per player. Hi Everyone I'm Thomas. I emigrated to Canada from England in 2011, and have some work history in retail management and accounts. I completed the MBA program at VIU in 2015. I like knowing the process to improve my chess, more than the actual skill, and also the feeling of working through others. My other hobby is Squash. I'm planning to move into the Finance sector in Toronto in the future. Happy to support club members with advice in that way if i'm able xD This club starting in 2013, I joined in 2014 and re-built the club with the 2014 executive team (David Diemert, Jason Faulkener, Boris Orlov, and Tham Duong), all of whom graduated away. So i'm passing on the reigns before i'm gone too... but never in your hearts or on chess.com I hope lol ;)
