I learned to play from my brother, when I was about 5 years of age. I did not become rated until many years later. I tend to go in cycles, sometimes playing brilliantly for a while, then losing the thread as I look into some exotic opening that seems like it might be fun. I enjoy quick games, though not bullet. I enjoy the tactics. I occasionally leave the game for a while to pursue other interests (a job, a wife, parenting, woodworking, fishing, cooking, etc.), but always seem to come back to chess in time.
