SchubertsShenanigans

An avid hobbyist of music and strategy games; chess, scrabble, backgammon, civilization, old school rpg's, card games. Anything really to pass the time and stimulate the mind.

I've been playing chess since I was just a kid, for roughly 35 years.

Lately I've been gravitating towards chess960, and for someone like myself -  too lazy at memorizing opening theory, the tricks and traps of classical chess, it offers an exciting and creative platform to play this great game we've all come to love. I will still be playing classical on regular basis and hopefully continue to improve; however I've already noticed how Fischer chess has allowed me to look at the board with new eyes, devoid of standard openings, positions and ritualistic moves - a blank canvas for fresh ideas and more intuitive play. Some of which can be carried over to the classical side, that being the plan at least.

I really enjoy the 960 games - they are exciting from the very first move till the last unlike classical which can be a bit daunting at times. Hopefully it lasts a good while.

Since I work from home, travel occasionally and freedom from rigid time constraints is necessary, I play daily games only - yet always open for a challenge, preferably 2 - 7 days, both 960 and standard. See you by the board.
