@VTVXIV loved the PBR in the picture. I no longer imbibe, but it was a favorite.
They were $2.00 at the time, but have since increased to $3.50, so I also no longer partake in the ol' PBR. 😋

Oh that's funny! I've only discovered PBR just 2 weeks ago. Being an import-only drinker my whole life, I've made fun of PBR many-a-times to those who order it. So while I'm drinking a PBR right now...I'm also eating some crow.
Hi everybody. If I had to purchase a new chess set, I will probably look at Mora turnery, Spain.
https://www.mora-play.com/mora/categoria-producto/ajedrez-en/?lang=en
In France we can purchase it here too: https://www.alphaechecs.fr/produit/pieces-dechecs-n-5-modele-staunton-europe-noyer-mat
Aparently, Mora manufactured the knights for the Roz turnery, which was the last turnery in France, which manufactured good quality boxwood chess sets. It closed its doors last year in 2022. Mora continues to make nice chess sets.
Hi, If I do remember well the chess pieces are from Chessbazaar (https://www.chessbazaar.com/tournament-series-championship-chess-pieces-with-german-knight-in-ebonized-boxwood-natural-boxwood-3-75-king.html) and the board is a

I just purchased an inexpensive but sturdy inlaid board in African Blackwood and maple from A&A Chess Equipment via German Amazon. It's a 5cm square size board and works nicely with 3.75" Staunton sets. I bought it because of the price of just €39,- including a carrier bag(!)
It is $66 on US Amazon today--not quite as good a deal. Amerous is selling a similar board on Amazon for the same price without the bag. A&A also has a board with 5.7 cm squares for $70. I'll probably buy that one to give as a gift.
Actually this has a $12 coupon today, and I was thinking about getting one. Glad to see a good picture of it. Thanks.
Thanks @chessmaster_diamond for posting those pics. I already had this board in my basket and your pics convinced me to get it. It looks really nice for $54 and that bag also fits my solid wood board too. I like the satin finish ... these pictures don't do it justice
Is it solid wood?
The A&A board is a real wood veneer laid over either plywood or compressed particle board. Looking at the back, I'm leaning towards plywood, which would be the better of the two options.

Thank you for the info. So it is veneered wood.
A solid wood board for $54? Dream on...
Would you provide the link for this board, I like the look of it.

Well this is funny... apparently "A&A" doesn't search very well on Amazon. Even "A&A Chess" seems to just pull up "Chess" stuff. Oh well, here's the Amazon link that I used, but your country may differ.

I didn´t realize it was an interrogation and I´m not avoiding any questions. I merely stated that I like ebonized pieces and that I own nice stained ones. So in my view ebonized and/or stained pieces can be "good". You have a different view. Ergo: We differ.
And I did not know you were going to fall down the rabbit hole of ridiculousness just to disagree.
That we disagree is because we hold different views, not because I (or you) strive to disagree. I note that you think I´m ridiculous and I take offence at that.
One of my favourite sets is a Dubrovnik with red, obviously stained, pieces and I think that is a very good set.
So your advice for the poster that has $2000 to spend on a good chess set.
Is to buy a painted or stained chess set.
Nice!!!
Then what about a Jaques ivory set from 1853 now this is stained red + then you need them $$$$$$$$ too !
