Thursday is always my goofie doggy face set.
My favorite set? I have a few favorites for different reasons.
Well, just for sheer luxury - Wilhelm Steinitz European Anegre Root Wood from Official Staunton. They are perfectly carved, perfectly weighted, a pleasure handle.
For my favorite day to day set - a toss up, my GM Blitz from CB and Paul Morphy set from Official Staunton. Both of them are just a delight to play with.
Just my fun set - a 1970s Soviet/Latvian (based on Tal's Favorite) from a user here. I also have a set I bought from a seller in Russia that has a repaired piece (noted by the seller in the listing) that I have made up a story about how it happened - and I am sticking with it. Both of these are fun to play with because of their history.
My sentimental set - a no name Staunton set that my wife bought for me when we were married just one year. A very basic, unweighted wood set that I have had for 35 years now.
I love how it looks like the board is hovering off the table
Thanks! I have a cat, so I keep the set I have out inside a table top display case. The black base in the photo is part of the case.
Lol everybody thinks the case base is part of the chessboard. I wonder why lol
So what's the difference between HoS collector serie you got and CB Nathaniel 1849 repro? Aren't they basically the same?
Favorite Set.
Favorite Set.... to actually play with is a modern, garbage quality, knotty wood, loose weights, off the shelf, 3.5" Chavet on a custom printed 2" square ACE mousepad board.
All are very nice sets and collections! My favorite is my Staunton Castle Conquest set. I use it everyday for study at the table. i wonder why my studying isn’t paying dividends right now though…. As with most days here, it is cloudy, rain, humid, and a bit dreary. A perfect day for chess!

Absolutely love the design of the Knight on that one. It looks like it is howling at the moon or something And the sharp angles in general. Very nice! Is that the 3.75" Collectors Series from HoS That MCH818 posted above? I coudln't tell if you said what brand/model that one was or wasn't. I'd love to add that to my collection....

Wow this guy is amazing. Prices are crazy high but these designs by Oleg Raikis are out of this world. I know a lot of you know him already, but this is my 1st time seeing these: https://chessantiques.com/product-category/rare-and-extraordinary-chess-sets/oleg-raikis-chess-sets/

Yes, it is a 3.75" Collectors from HoS in boxwood/padauk. It is a great set and I love it. Too bad HoS changed the design. You can always get the 4" Collectors II version which is still the old design.
I got my 4" Collector II Series from The Chess Empire. I liked the design better and it was considerably cheaper. YMMV. It comes in ebonized, ebony or padauk. If you get ebony and don't want it stained, you need to request that. Here is my writeup on the set. Two Sets from TCE
This is possibly my favorite combination of my equipment to actually play on.
That's a great combo, and I especially like the antiquing in the light knights' manes, but that board really catches my eye. The corner detail is just lovely!

I have similar thoughts to @Rsava. In that ... it depends.
I have two "display sets" which are reasonably large, cumbersome and somewhat 'ornamental' - just there for "the look" albeit I do set them up for study - often - so for those - it's a toss of the coin between the Shera and the 2016 Bridle Knight and I'll land on the Shera ..... just
There there are two very playable ebony sets - the Squadron and the GM Blitz and I'll land on the Squadron ... just
But my favourite is my Phillipines set - it's rough, rugged - can be played, dropped, knocked ... but also look different, quite beautiful in it's own unique way. Here 'tis:
My favorite set I own is a porcelain Egyptian themed set. It is HUGE! Unfortunately, there is a pawn missing a head but could easily be fixed by someone who knew what they were doing (not me). Actually did a display at my library of all my different sets it is kinda hard to see the Egyptian one but it's there (top left).
