So regarding the highest tier to back ChessUp2 on Kickstarter, how and when does the Chess.com discount code apply? Do backers receive the discount immediately, or do they have to wait for the kit to be delivered before they can sign up for the premium membership on chess.com with the discount voucher?

You should check out the ChessUp 2 Kickstarter FAQ.

Backers have an exclusive offer to save 50% on a 1-year Diamond Chess.com Membership. Backers who choose the Diamond ChessUp 2 package will receive a voucher code that they can redeem at any time within 12 months to receive 50% off.

I read it. Did they clarify exactly WHEN the voucher will be released to the backers? Thanks.

i also went ahead and asked them to clarify.

No, want me to ask on the comment section?

I think you can only do that if you are a backer.

Thanks. I just asked them in their FAQ section.

Been doing Kickstarter campaigns for years, never noticed there was a "Ask a question" button in the FAQ section.

Sorry, I thought the voucher was immediate, I've never done a Kickstarter. I never imagined that the voucher would also be tied to the success of the project.

Please let us know what they say from your ask.

"thats like 600 AUS more" (I am guessing you mean AUD)? More than what?

If I take 629 USD and convert it to AUD, it gives me about $1000 AUD (at the current exchange rate). They are the same price, US or AUD, the exchange rate determines how much of your currency you need to pay compared to US currency.

If I look at Euros, it would only be about 584 Euros for the board. Should I be mad at Chessup because our US $ is weaker compared to the Euro?

Let me ask Rsava which electronic board he would pick if he could only have one of the many he presently owns.

Rsava

Wow, tough question as they all have their +/-. So it will be my choice based on certain factors, then what I would choose if it HAD to be just one. (And of course, using the Chessconnect extension for playing, just a great way to play.

For pure feature set, probably the Chessnut Evo. This would likely be my overall choice.

For just the beauty of a board and pieces, the Chessnut Pro with Premium pieces. Played another long time control game with it yesterday and honestly it was like playing an IRL game. Just a joy to use.

For portability AND feature set, probably the Chessup 1.

For pure portability, now the Millenium e-One (with my modified wooden pieces). It fits so nicely in my carryon, and it is a bit lighter than the Chessnut Air.

Funny story - I just went through TSA (Pre-Check) at Nashville airport (BNA). My bag got flagged, it looked like a weird electronic device that the screener could not identify. The lady who pulled my bag to inspect said it looked like a keyboard. I said "Oh, that is probably my electronic chessboard."

She pulls it out and says "Wow, that is cool. So you play against the computer?" I explained how it can be used online to play games and the board transmits the moves to the website.

She was floored. She says (no lie), "So it stops me from clicking the wrong square and blundering my piece?!? I'm going to have to look into these things."

HAHAHA!!! Another convert, hopefully.

If it truly had to be one, just one - probably the Chessup1 and if the Chessup2 is everything it seems it will be, that would be my choice - only because of both the portability and feature set, which the Chessnut products have but not all tied up in one package.

As much as I love the Chessnut products, the Chessup is a very solid piece of kit that people cannot go wrong with.

Thanks Rsava for the detailed answer. thumbup

600 USD compared to under 300 USD

Rsava

What is under $300 US?

The Evo is $629 US for me, living in the US, which works out to about $1000 AUD.

Do you know how currency conversion works?

dragonite2

Look, chessnut evo, 629USD = 1000 AUD Chessup, is 199USD, roughly 350 AUD

1000AUD>350AUD 650 more

I have not gotten a reply so I read the comments section and found a question similar to mine which the campaign creator replied to:

“Once the campaign closes on May 14th, payment is collected. Once we have a verified pledge with payment closed, we will contact backers with the Diamon package and provide a voucher code.

You can use that voucher code anytime between May 14th 2024 and May 14th 2025.”

If that was what you were trying to say, you failed with your original post (#40) which was this:

You should really learn to communicate properly.

Thanks for that video, @chessroboto

Touchscreen is really small. Does not look like you can do much except play games, so no other features? I realize it was a paid promotional video (carries less weight for me, t=but then look who it is and what it highlighted.

Two things about Rosen:

1. "I didn't take my hand off the piece" - and we wonder why newcomers don't understand basic rules of chess. For an IM to say that is laughable.

2. A couple of times he stated things like "I just wish I could have seen my opponent suffer". What an absolute childish thing for a professional to say.

The board looks good, though. @chessroboto, have you run across any videos that go more into the menus of the system instead of just paid ads for chess[]com?

Hello @Rsava. Hope all's well at your end. I haven't written a chess story just yet, but the recent solar eclipse could play a part in something mystical happy.

Anyway, when I watched the video and saw his "I didn't take my hand off the piece" moment, I was actually impressed at the revelation. Due to the 'touchsense' technology, it appears this ChessUp board is the only board where this 'rule' can be realistically applied. At least I don't know of any other offerings where a player can move a piece without letting go, and still take it back without the move being registered. Also, this tech must play a part in registering the intended square when sliding pieces. Maybe a small detail, but this feature seems to make game play a little more natural and pleasing.

Regarding your 2nd point though, yeah, I thought it was a little comical too happy.

Hey at @Yenster1 - Yes, I agree, it will allow you to do that, and it will be a nice thing that others do not do right now. But honestly, it gets me more in the "calculation" mindset to not even touch a piece before I am ready to move it.

But I think a point of clarification on his part would have gone a long way. I remember using that exact phrase over 50 years ago when I was starting out, "I didn't take my hand off the piece!" to argue that I could take that back and move another piece.

With all the stuff I see on Reddit from new players about common rules that they did not know anything about, I can see them watching that video and yelling "I watched an IM say it on YouTube so it must be allowed!"

Back to the actual board, have you backed it (I forget, my old and feeble brain does not retain much anymore)? I have, it is intriguing to me to see how well it works and if it will be just as good on the Lichess site (where I play most of my games).
