Chessboards that match with noj BCE Stage 3 black with stainless steel bases ?

Dear chess-friends

This is the first time i write on the forum. So please stay patient with me and my errors.

I play every now and then chess - just for fun with my son or a friend and do not participate in any kind of tournament.

The other day I ordered a new chess-set noj eastern bce stage 3 black with stainless steel bases. I will cost me a „fortune“, but I somehow fell in love with it on first sight.

Then I looked for the perfect chessboard and was recommended a rechapados ferrer 21,7 inch matt black and maple board. I bought it on ebay from regencychess only to get the information the day after that they don‘t have it on stock anymore.

So far I only own a Staunton Castle Dubrovink Series 1950 Vintage Reproduction 3.75" Antiqued Chess Set with a corresponding board and some day I want to buy a Savano chess-set - either from HoT or chessempire (I am not sure so far) - so you see I am a kind of beginner and somehow focused on sets that I like to look at as well.

As it will take a little bit till the chess-figures will arrive I am going to take other boards into consideration which might match with e.g. Savano. as well.

Does anybody have some kind of recommendation for me?

Thanks in advance

So far I considered 2-2,25 inch square and 21,7 inch appropriate.
I choose  a special place for the board and piecies. 58cm is the max I can go with.

There are some phenomenal 23,6 boards still available - too big, it‘s a pity

At the moment loads of boards are sold out - it will take a lot of patience

Congrats on getting the BCE stage 3 with the “bling” add-on. My choice as well if the DGT capability were not a requirement for me.

It seems that the BCE pieces look right on a board with 52mm or 2in squares of based off the demo on the DGT Revelation II computer. Check it out here

On DGT walnut boards during 2012 official tournament play with 55mm or 2.2in squares

@Chessnose5a, First of all, congratulations!

If you've already ordered the pieces, my recommendation is to get some inexpensive roll up vinyl boards in various square sizes to test and see which square size works best for you. Only splurge on a wooden board when you know the right size.

Regarding which type of wood to get for the board, since you already ordered the dark pieces in black, it shouldn't matter much. It's when you have non-black pieces for the dark side (such as those made from sheesham, maple, rosewood, etc) that contrast plays an important role.

BTW, original board for the Dubrovnik 1950 had 60mm sized squares, which is equivalent to 2.36 inches.

Also, Staunton Castle Dub 1950 has 3.75" King with 1.75" base. They are larger than original/Noj Dub 1950 which are 3.5" with 1.48" base.

I came across noj the first time in this forum some weeks ago and it is full of praise for noj.

Thanks for the grats and the recommendations.

i always thought a black and white boards suits better to black and white pieces. But I must admit walnut/maple suits them perfectly as well.

MCH818, you show us a very nice one - where did you get it from?

I would guess cww (colorado woodworkers - i just learned this today). They have nice boards but seem to be a really little small company so it might take quite a long time.

I searched through chesshouse shop and found some nice JLC boards, had a look at rechapados ferrer, italfama, even mtmwoodv(i guess from russia - nice but costly) - only regarding Indian companies I was a little cautious because I read some negatives about some of them. For me as a non-expert it is difficult to distinguish the good from the bad.

The biggest problem at the moment is to get the chessboards.

Enough lamented - I guess I’ll end up buying a walnut/maple and a anigre black/maple board.

... and I will post photos once I received the pieces and the board(s)

Did your new board arrive? Post some pics when you can.

No, the second time my purchase was cancelled - due to a „stock bug“.

I am still searching - but I am not in a hurry.

Glad that you were able to cancel your order. Some posters here have had to wait months before getting their orders that also turned out to be out of stock at the time the sellers collected their payments.

I am unsure about the logistics, but consider this site when they get restocked.

I would never have imagined that the Queen's Gambit fad/craze would wipe out the non-electronic items on DGT's own online store.

Yesterday I ordered the board - I will get it in about two months. About the time when the figures will arrive.

Yesterday my chessboard arrived - it looks great. Can‘t wait for the Noj Pieces on it. I hope they‘ll arrive soon. (announced for end of March)

Uhhh... March of THIS year? March 2021?

So in January when you placed your Noj order it was a 2.5 month wait. Now it's a 12 month wait frustrated.png

I was really lucky - they had a partly-finished set on stock. I ordered it immediately.

Mine’s scheduled for June, ordered in Dec. I consider myself lucky.
