Good way to display chess sets?

Hi everyone,

Over the past year I've been collecting various chess sets and would really like to show them off in my house! I was wondering if anyone knew a good way to do this or knew of a particular chess display case I can use?

Thanks! happy.png

Sorry, I really have no clue! Sounds like you'd need a pretty big display case, though.

People are subjective, but I have mine displayed this way.

That looks awesome @Jaionix! Where did you get the cabinet/tower that they’re all in?

Good eye. It was corrected a while back. Just haven't made the time to make a updated picture.

I don't have this set up, but I imagine it would look INCREDIBLE to display your best centerpiece chess set. They have a variety of sizes to display all different types of memorabilia. I just chose the Lego minifig case because it's most similar to chess pieces. $118 usd.

The LEDs are powered by outlet or powerbank.

FREE glass display case. Anyone near Tom's River NJ? There's a Kohl's there throwing out glass display cases. Looks perfect size for chess sets. 40 mins ago. (Sat. 6/12/21 1:30pm)

  ...sorry man 😛

Actually there is nothing wrong with that one, unless your seeing something i'm not.  surprise.png  Fog squares are dark, clear squares are light.

A little late to the conversation but could you share a link to the shelves you are storing the sets on here in the forum, @Jaionix

Others (like me) would probably like to take a look at the product.

I don't post links ever since I got modded, but I do PM links to anyone that asks. Sent you a PM.

Not just cats, look out for a stray mouse. One can wreck havoc in your chess room as it chews through wood and knocks down pieces. Enclosed glass displays are great for your expensive sets.

That was my goal originally, but after much searching, I could never find a glass cabinet that enclosed large boards.  As far cats I own a Maine Coon.
Surprisingly, he has never shown any interest in my sets, and instead loves ping pong balls. Never seen any mice in the 10 years here. (Knock on wood) So its the luck of the draw, I guess.

Oeeeh nice cat! I have a mixed one, still a kitten now but wondering if she will become huge. Everytime she sees pieces she always wants to play with them sad.png

@Jaionix - what is the biggest board you have on the lower shelves (that fit between the risers)? It appears from the question/answers on the Amazon page that the inner dimensions are about 18 1/2" inches. I have 4 boards that are 21 1/2" wide.

You are correct.  The inner dimensions are 18 1/2.  My top board on the shelves is, like yours, 21 1/2.  My largest one is this 25x25 board. Shown here. Too big to fit.

I've been through many months searching, garage sales, furniture stores, online auctions looking for any curio cabinet with a size bigger to display chessboards over 15x15, with no luck.  You would think for amount of beautiful boards made over the years, cabinets to display them would have been widespread, but they just aren't.
