PHANTOM: The Automated Chessboard

Looks pretty slow to move, no faster than the Square Off Swap/Neo boards which are available right now

chesslover0003

Phantom is currently 31 months late. How late was Square Off?

BaronVonChickenpants

I have no idea. What's the relevance?

Hi!

APersonWhoYoyos
I ordered a cordless dark walnut, and they’re supposedly done manufacturing all of them, and have started shipping 800 already
BaronVonChickenpants

Of what? Phantom? I highly doubt it.

I recently received a Chessnut Go board and love it to bits

APersonWhoYoyos
107 yes of phantom. Many on the kickstarter page have reported receiving theirs already.
APersonWhoYoyos
I thought I had been scammed too, but it finally looks like phantom is going to deliver.
BaronVonChickenpants

Oh wow, what an unexpected surprise

BaronVonChickenpants

I've just looked at the game video above, is this as fast as the pieces move? It's not usable for online play unless you use classical controls. My experience with other boards is that you lose too much time with the piece movements even in Rapid

APersonWhoYoyos
Yeah it probably wouldn’t be very good for blitz and below for sure but rapid might be ok with increments
BaronVonChickenpants

I used to play 15 10 and in games that run into a decent number of move you lose a lot of time. You are essentially playing without increment while your opponent is!

APersonWhoYoyos
113 idk but ultimately I’m buying it mostly for casual play and sculpture mode, not online games

@TheRealWilliam2 no one on the Kistarter page has reported recieving their board. On the cotnrary, people are pancking, precisely because their boards are not being shipped. Please, stick to the facts.

APersonWhoYoyos
115 I don’t know where you are getting panic. On the contrary, most people are doing great. The only people having issues are people who report the card not being charged at shipping notification, but this is simply due to the fact that they consider the moment the package enters a warehouse in their country as “shipped”. Otherwise, things are going relatively smoothly, except for overly sceptical people who want refunds, which is ridiculous, this is a crowdfunded project, that’s just not how they work. The chances of it being a scam now are quite low.

Nothing about this screams scam to me. Instead, it screams rushed, understaffed team trying to meet promises that were too ambitious. If they were going to rugpull they would’ve stopped posting updates by now

It's possible (even likely) the campaign had every intention to deliver a product to backers.

Meeting the bare minimum requirements from Kickstarter allows the campaign to continue (with no expectations overturning funds)... and they can still collect money from others. At some point the project will close and/or run out of funds.

When is it a scam/fraud to keep leading others on that there is still hope? Im sorry to hear you're a backer and I hope you will get something out of it eventually.

Yeah, we'll see. At least a few of the orders appear to be filled, and there are a few reviews on youtube, but only bata tester units as far as I can tell
