SilverBack Chess Clock - Finally ready for Public Sale!

Hey everyone,

I know I have posted on the SilverBack Chess Clock beta testing, sampling, and everything else for a while.  We hit a couple of hiccups on the way.  I had to pull them off the market for a month because of a chip problem,...but the clocks are finally ready!

They come in Red, White, Blue, and Black.  We went with the powder coat paint to make them durable.  The clock is made from Aluminum.

Our displays are 30% larger than a Chronos which allows us an Alphanumeric line.  This simplifies the programming by walking you through the process.

It saves 10 personal time controls.  The Global menu is broken down into 4 different sections:  Bullet (5 settings), Short (12 settings), Long (10 settings), and Multi-Phase (Multiple time controls) (11 settings).  We also added all the main time controls for The USCF national tournaments, the National Open (Vegas Chess Festival), and the Continental Chess Association.

We also have the "TD Adjust Mode" which allows TD's to add/subtract time easily for either player.

Think of it as a Chronos on Steroids...but WAY easier to use.

It is currently being sold on www.ChessSet.com and www.Chess4Less.com.
Within the next couple weeks, it should also be sold on www.USCFSALES.com, www.Wholesalechess.com, www.ChessUSA.com, www.ChessHouse.com, and a couple of other sites.

Buy is on my site (www.ChessSet.com), and I am doing a FREE Laser engraving promotion for each clock sold (Ends July 31st, 2025).  I am attaching samples of engraving I have done already.

Understand when we laser engrave the clock; all we are doing is burning off the powder coating to show the aluminum underneath.

Let me know what you think!

If you want, send it off to me and I will do it for you. Let me know what you want on it and I will engrave it and send it back.

I will have to charge for the shipping back. Will run you $8.95.

Since you bought it at the National Open...I will hook you up. Gotta take care of my great customers!

Shelby can i please ask you for a favor?

Can your partners please bring a few samples to the August tournament in Irvine, California (CCA tournament?, i think it's called Pacific Coast Open). I'd like to see the clock in action before I buy it. Thank you!!!

Falkentyne,

I am not sure who is selling at that tournament. I think it is Rudy out of Pasadena. If it is him...I am sure he will have some of my clocks there for you to check out.

Thanks

This is great news, Shelby! If you do get confirmation, and you have the time, please PM me. I need to save money (I am on disability, so it's a grind). I was so unhappy I missed the Vtek300 window (because I was waiting for the limited wood grain version to get in stock on the website, when the stock one was still available!)--don't want to make that mistake again!

Are the folders with the US Chess National tournaments, Vegas Chess Festival, and Continental Chess Association time controls editable? They essentially become useless if the time control for these tournaments change in the future.

Excellent question: CCA has changed time controls more often than i change my socks, it seems

Micah,

We will update them in the next version of the clock after they announce the changes. Unfortunately, the clock is not editable as of yet.

Thanks

In this video on the Silverback clock, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2ZeRgGGDeY, I happened to notice that when the clock was set for 40/80 SD/30 D30 and started, it wasn't giving the 30 second delay time (go to around 2:05 in the video). I hope this has been fixed.

Also, for the free laser engraving, is it possible to get the Chess Gorilla logo engraved on the back?

Very interesting.
I'm a mechanical freak, so I like the mechanical switch.

If this is going to be sold in Europe, consider adding an overlay so the arbiter can see who's moving from a distance.

Until now, my favorite electronic chess clock was an old Saitek, beautifully made :)

Big congratulations! Good luck!

Micah,

Yup, it has been fixed.

I will engrave anything you'd want on the clock. If you want our logo...not a problem. It is a little detailed for the laser I have, but it still shows up very well.

Thanks

Chess Art,

For the arbiters to see from a distance...we have the lights on the top of the clock. Before the game starts, depending on which mode you are in, it will show up Blue (USCF Mode) or Yellow (FIDE Mode). If the clock is stopped, the lights turn to RED. If it is in TD mode, the lights change to blue.

Hope this helps,

Shelby Lohrman

Hi Shelby, that was the update we got when sending our early clocks in, yes? Just want to make sure if I have to sell it one day. Thanks, Mike

This does not appear to have been fixed, at least not with the clock I have. Also, if you set the clock for 40/80,SD/30;d30 using "create new" (instead of selecting it from the CCA folder which is where the issue I mentioned above comes about) it shows the clock is set for "40/80 30 I47 D30" and it doesn't always give the delay time once the players get to the sudden death time control.

Shelby, I am confused, but part of that might be me. Does the clock, when it gets to SD, give the 30-second delay? I don't understand what Micah is saying that "it doesn't always give the delay time once the players get to the sudden death time control." You mean it gives it sometimes and sometimes it doesn't? Is it a matter of setting it properly?

There appears to be a bug when you set it for a time control with multiple time periods with delay using "create new".
