Everyone defending this idiotic action needs to move to some totalitarian nation and get the hell out of my United States.

Freedom of assembly in a public place is one of those liberties, supposedly guaranteed by the Constitution.

Ben Franklin never boarded an airplane in a U.S. airport.

There is a unsettling irony to this case. That a law or statute designed to protect children from pedophiles could have been circumvented if the men had brought some children with them....

 I suppose that is so.

dillydream

Since when do pedophiles hang out in gangs of six anyway?  Aren't they usually creeping around by themselves, trying not to get noticed?

ivandh

Sounds to me like one of those rules they use as a reason to get rid of troublemakers. Of course not everyone with an ounce of authority will see it this way.

Danny_BLT

haha, glad to say that there's none of that over here. play parks are the favoured hangouts for drunks an drug addicts round my parts. makes taking the dog for a walk that little bit more entertaining

bondocel

It's so crazy that I suspect it's an April's fool prank. It's just like forbidding men to walk on the same streets as women to protect them from rapists.

that depends on where they obtaind the children from. Loins? fine. Park around the corner, 50 quid fine.

I think I heard about this before.  If I'm right the crime wasn't playing chess but not following the park rules.  If it is a park for children then the chess tables are for the children.  simple

You did. It was posted before. As was stated before, the chess playing was not the reason for the arrest. It was because they weren't accompanied by children. They could have played chess there all the wanted if they would have had kids with them, so this incident has nothing to do with chess.

Maia-M

Its ridiculous to assume that an adult accompanied by a child is NOT a PEDAPHILE or otherwise! Using a child as bait is one of the ways a Pedi uses to intice.

Its also ridiculous to site them for being in an area where the park actually set up tables to use for the game !

The men were arrested for the cities failure to appropriatly position the tables in an area that the no child rule was not in effect!

As for the rule ! WAKE UP ! statistics are outrageous for the lack of long term successful treatment of pedi !. Do not rely on stupid posted signs that carry no protection for anyone. Monitor the children. Lord knows they cant do it themselves!

READ THE SIGNS >>>POOR GUYS!

THe entire park wasn't for kids, but the playground area was designated for kids only. I don't see anything unreaonable about that. The problem seems to be that the chess tables were already there when the area was changed to "kids only." Obviously, the intelligent solution would have been to relocate the tables, but nobody thought of it--probably just a simple oversight.

I sympathize with the cops here--which is not my usual stance--but they were confronted with a situation where that section of the park was restricted to children and parents only, and the players refused to leave. In any case, all charges were dismissed, and the tables were relocated, so we probably won't need a revolution

The men that entered the plea must not get into any trouble for 6 months or the will get in trouble for that and this and have a sex charge on their record NOT FAIR!

Yeah, there is no way I take that plea deal. Now they'll get picked up for blowing a .08 (two beers) while driving and be labled a sex offender for life. Even though they never got within 100 feet of a kid!

If they are labeled a sex offender for anything other than a sex offence, itwould be damned outrageous.

doucit2

Where did all these 'sex offences' come from? Of course there is no way they could be charged with a sex offence for simply ignoring park regulation. It is not the nature of the law that is considered when charging someone but the offence itself.

1pawndown

doucit2 is quite correct - the players were cited for violation of a municipal ordinance -not a sex offense. This is about as serious as a traffic ticket.

ivandh

I can't believe how our parks are desecrated by men being in them (a heinous sexual act in and of itself):

Can you believe this guy? Using a public bench that CHILDREN sit on for his own perverted fantasy of resting his legs! Or this creep, holding his stick out in broad daylight:

Kohai, I know posting such disgusting acts is against TOS but I feel like a more important moral crisis is at stake. We must ban all men from parks to protect the purity and innocence of our children.

Anything by another name would still be ...a sex offense...? What were those "guys" doing in a "children only" park? What were those chess tables doing in a children park?

It wasn't a children only park. You were just required to have children with you.

ZBicyclist

1. Are they chess tables? How are these to be distinguished from checker tables? Are children not allowed to play either game?

2. Parts of parks all over the place are set aside for special stuff. Unless you are playing tennis, you aren't supposed to hang around the net of a tennis court, for example. You can't jog on a parks golf course. Dogs off leash are prohibited in lots of places.
