Sounds to me like one of those rules they use as a reason to get rid of troublemakers. Of course not everyone with an ounce of authority will see it this way.

I think I heard about this before. If I'm right the crime wasn't playing chess but not following the park rules. If it is a park for children then the chess tables are for the children. simple
You did. It was posted before. As was stated before, the chess playing was not the reason for the arrest. It was because they weren't accompanied by children. They could have played chess there all the wanted if they would have had kids with them, so this incident has nothing to do with chess.
Its ridiculous to assume that an adult accompanied by a child is NOT a PEDAPHILE or otherwise! Using a child as bait is one of the ways a Pedi uses to intice.
Its also ridiculous to site them for being in an area where the park actually set up tables to use for the game !
The men were arrested for the cities failure to appropriatly position the tables in an area that the no child rule was not in effect!
As for the rule ! WAKE UP ! statistics are outrageous for the lack of long term successful treatment of pedi !. Do not rely on stupid posted signs that carry no protection for anyone. Monitor the children. Lord knows they cant do it themselves!

THe entire park wasn't for kids, but the playground area was designated for kids only. I don't see anything unreaonable about that. The problem seems to be that the chess tables were already there when the area was changed to "kids only." Obviously, the intelligent solution would have been to relocate the tables, but nobody thought of it--probably just a simple oversight.
I sympathize with the cops here--which is not my usual stance--but they were confronted with a situation where that section of the park was restricted to children and parents only, and the players refused to leave. In any case, all charges were dismissed, and the tables were relocated, so we probably won't need a revolution
The men that entered the plea must not get into any trouble for 6 months or the will get in trouble for that and this and have a sex charge on their record NOT FAIR!

If they are labeled a sex offender for anything other than a sex offence, itwould be damned outrageous.
Where did all these 'sex offences' come from? Of course there is no way they could be charged with a sex offence for simply ignoring park regulation. It is not the nature of the law that is considered when charging someone but the offence itself.
doucit2 is quite correct - the players were cited for violation of a municipal ordinance -not a sex offense. This is about as serious as a traffic ticket.

It wasn't a children only park. You were just required to have children with you.
1. Are they chess tables? How are these to be distinguished from checker tables? Are children not allowed to play either game?
2. Parts of parks all over the place are set aside for special stuff. Unless you are playing tennis, you aren't supposed to hang around the net of a tennis court, for example. You can't jog on a parks golf course. Dogs off leash are prohibited in lots of places.
