Bill Gates played against Magnus Carlsen during the recording of a Norwegian talkshow a couple of days ago. The host arranged an informal match between them where Gates was given two minutes and Carlsen 30 seconds. Here´s a record of the game:
yeah it makes you just want to say nice.
What's brilliant and nice is that Bill Gates managed to obtain a completely winning position after just 8 moves.9. Re1 would have given White a huge advantage.24 [+3.48] 9.Re1 Nxd3 10.cxd3 O-O-O 11.Qa4 Kb8 12.Re4 Nf6 13.Rd4 Rc8 14.Rh4 Qf5 15.Rf4 Qe6 16.Qc4 Qxc4 17.dxc4 e6 18.Ne5 Bd6 19.d4 Rhf8 20.Rh4 h6 21.Bf4 Rcd8 22.Bg3 Nd7 23.Re1 a6 24.Nxd7+ Rxd7 25.Kh2 Be7 26.Rhe4 Bf6 (132.42)
When was the last time you saw MC technically (if not completely) lost after 8 moves ?........Kind of funny it's listed as "Round 1"....
Thank you for the analysis, the advantage is obvious when you try this on the board:
