he might not be too happy when his rubber duck has to make some space for her in the bath.

Synne Christin Larsen.  Is she the "lovely young maiden from Norway" in the limericks thread?

Interesting that he's gone for a non-chess-player, probably a wise choice to be honest

"Basically my wife was immature. I'd be at home in the bath and she'd come in and sink my boats." Woody Allen

Hmm, any joke from Woody Allen about immaturity in his marriage is reeeeeeally creepy.

Not if you just read the quote and don't think of anything else but the quote. By itself it's really funny, it's your thoughts going beyond the quote that might make it feel creepy, not the quote I posted on it's own.

Son - disagree. I think most chess players are casual enough about the game to have relationships outside of chess.

Eseles - in isolation, Woody is hilarious.  I have a difficult time keeping his personal life out of his jokes/fiction/movies though, as they are based on his personal life.

Oh son that is certainly untrue, they are intelligent enough to pursue and flourish in anything you or I can do. They simply follow their path because that is what they want to do.

That doesn't change the fact that it requires intense mental faculty to play at their level. And if you enjoy something - and are damn good at it, why not do it for a living? By far one of the most intelligent people I've ever met - and I've worked at a handful of top tier tech companies - is a professional drummer. Assuming that because one is highly intelligent one must do something that in your eyes is 'productive' is ridiculous.
