Hey everyone! A new big event..and me once again, helping the community following it.

The Nanjing Pearl Spring Tournament started today and here are the six players competing in it:

     Vishy Anand, reigning world champion

Magnus Carlsen, official world #1 ranked player

Veselin Topalov, official world #2 ranked player

Wang Yue, Chinese #1 ranked player

Vugar Gashimov, Azerbaijan #3 ranked player

Etienne Bacrot, French #2 ranked player

None of the Top 3 are playing each other today. Here are the time controls as well:

The tournament is a double round robin with time controls of two hours for 40 moves, then one hour for 20, then 15 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30 second increment. Sofia anti-draw rules will apply.

   Here are the games:

      Game 1 is Magnus(W) vs. Bacrot(B)

----------
Game 2 - Anand(W) vs. Wang(B):
----------
And game 3: Topalov(W) vs. Gashimov(B) is still going on with the 2nd stage of time well on the way and it will be posted when it is done.

Here is the finished Topalov/Gashimov game:

So, Mags was the only one to have won a game today, even though he won due to his opponent losing on time, but it is still a win. Anand and Topalov draw their games, and I am looking forward to the game where these two meet for the first time since the World Championship Match from Sofia earlier this year.
So, stay turned for round 2 tomorrow. The only rest day for this tourney is October 25th, so it will be a important event. The winner of this tourney gets the nod for the 2011 Grand Slam Finals. Enjoy the games.

I'm going to do it like this every day my friend, so when they are done tomorrow, I'm going to post them here just like today, and will be doing so for the whole event. So just stop by this thread tomorrow and everything will be ready. They'll finish up probably between 7 and 8 AM Eastern Time, just look for it in the forums.  Smile

Well, as much as I'm not a huge fan of Anand, I'm inclined to agree with you here, unless Mags stages a nice comeback to regular form
