Although many pointed out that the abrubt change in tiebreak procedure at Zurich benefited Nakamura and hurt Anand, they futher speculated that Anand was upset by this change and would have won had the original tiebreak rules not been changed. Here is what Anand (@vishy64theking) had to say on Twitter:
Nice to be back after a good event. I was quite surprised to know that people on social media & websites have implied that I was unhappy with the tiebreak or the interpretation of rules [at Zurich]. I would just like to say I was never dissatisfied with the tiebreak. The only thing I was angry [at] was my own play in the rapid. I am quite surprised that people have been spreading rumors on various forums without checking the actual facts. As a sportsperson we play according to the rules of the game and accept the results. The rules in this case were fair. Personally I was very happy to have that I was able to play good chess in Zurich, and this would not have been possible if the conditions of play were not excellent. Now for some humpty dumpty time with Akhil.
