And good night.
Nice ending. Thank you.
sometimes, you read the first few posts of an old thread, then you skip to the end, and wonder where it all went wrong.
Hey, that's an interesting take! I never really thought about chess being the *opposite* of art before. The idea that it's all logic and reasoning makes sense, especially the bit about precise calculations. Definitely gives me something to think about!
Chess is a surreal art.
Each square on the chessboard represents a window into the dream.
You just have to close your eyes to let your imagination wander between the different pieces.
Understand who can.
Have a nice day everyone !

I agree completely, sir! I almost weep with the incredible beauty in the pattern groups in EVERY SINGLE game without fail. It is art and mathematics. Molecular physics connects it all. yes, I agree ... astonishing beauty in the game. Every game is like exploring a loved one's body for the first time.
Unlike the OP, I don't think there is a literal logical/rational side of the brain, and a creative/ artistic side of the brain; I don't even think it's a good concept or model. I'm not even sure what is meant by the terms "logical/rational/creative/artistic" in this context. Even the sciences both natural and social, prefer theories that can be described as "aesthetically pleasing". I tend to think of chess in terms of a creative process and the whole is "artistically pleasing", or not, regardless of outcome.
its artistic, not an art. all the pieces are just sitting there in front of you, you create nothing.
The REAL art is in the mental manipulation of the chess positions' conceptual data as symbolized by the moves chosen.
Once upon a time, I simply posted chess is art. I'm not going to defend that. Instead, I want to applaud all of you for having distinct & individual perceptions of what this game really is. It's nice to listen to all your comments. They make me feel better, like I'm not alone wondering, what is this game we call chess?

Very, very cool thread. Thank you for posting it. Chess is so many things. Even this very week, chess became my psychotherapist. ![]()
And good night.
