I make wierd moves when I'm pissed,I don't recomend it to anyone, however when I'm stoned I tend to concentrate a hell of alot better but I need a lot more time than usally per moveSurprised

I've played drunk a few times, I only used tricks all the time and kept on attacking everything. Didn't really feel like thinking in advance but I won all games:)

In Russia I saw many players that played very well (at least in blitz) when

they were drunk.

(Crunch crackle) If you subscribe to the theory that at least 10,000 hours are necessary to master a complex subject, then it seems that those attempting to master chess should play while drunk, sleepy, sick and otherwise impaired. Once we start making excuses for not playing/studying, the 10,000 hours will spread out over too many years to be of the most benefit and we will fall short of mastery.

Have you ever calibrated your Elo against your blood alcohol level?

I've spent more than 10 k hours being drunk. Does that mean I mastered it and henceforth am being immune to its downsides?

I find that I play about 200 rating points lower when drunk. I'm 1800 blitz when sober and about 1600 blitz when drunk.

All the rated (and most of the unrated) games on this account were played while drunk. I'm not convinced it hurts my speed chess. In fact I wonder if my rating is higher after a few drinks.

(Obviously after 5-6 drinks it would go down 300 or more points)

What is a drink?

One oz. of 80 proof bourbon?

One glass (3-4 ozs) of 100 proof bourbon?

One domestic beer?

One craft beer?

One mixed drink, such as Long Island Iced Tea?

One full glass of wine?

One four oz. pour of good wine?

You're practically a teetotaler.

Generally I pour 2 oz of 190 proof, mix it with various whatever I have, and drink that. If I'm feeling like I want more, then 3 oz but usually it's 2.

Mixing it with something that has caffeine in it gives the best results for me. I drink it with a meal, so it's all gone in about 30 minutes.

4 ozs is about my threshold for getting sick. Anything after 4 and I risk throwing up. 4 oz also drops my rating a minimum of 300 points.

So, equivalent to my glass of Wild Turkey 101 (four ozs). One of these improves my chess, two causes my skill to deteriorate. After the third:

Haha, yeah.

At some point it's just all losses until you're sober enough to 1) focus your eyes easily and 2) care about the result of the game enough to calculate

Tried this last night due to Christmas: Sober I’m between 1200-1275 blitz. Drunk I was coming in at about a 1050 lol

Maybe a pinch of alcohol might be helpful to forget bad things before the start of match

I usually play stoned. I have a medical use diagnosis. There is a wonerful benefit with cannabis use - I don't care if I win or lose. As a result, I enjoy the game much much more. If I drop a piece, miss a mate, stalemate, or somehow lose to a lower rated player, I just laugh at myself. So so much better than being pissed.
