I’ve been burned 🔥 sooo many times by lewd or rude chat that I now disable chat much of the time. It makes me sad that a few jerks ruin it for everyone. Also, I favor the short games and as I’m not SUPER fast, literally can’t spare a second to chat. But I used to love to chat - met many of my chess friends that way.
Message To People Who Disable Chat
I love how this fourm gets bumped every few months still. I don't chat during games, I simply say "Good Game" afterwards using the "good sport" button shortcut that was added. That's just being a good sport and is the tradition in chess worldwide.
I ain't reading all that. but I always disable chat, I want to play chess, not chat with a bunch of bundles of sticks. the thing that irks me is the "are you still here" message. It is not for them to know
There is no point in enabling the chat, unless you're willing to put up with people calling you, I quote, "A Somalian gayboi", "g a y", telling you, I quote, "f u k you", "coward", "idiot", "you're too lucky" and whatnot - or gloating over their win, calling you "weak", "loser" and so on.
I do not put up with such behavior in meatspace, and I do not put up with such behavior online. The difference is, online I can actually shut these people down without even having to say a word, and I thank Chess.com administration for that.
I'm sorry if it comes of as offensive, but I simply refuse to give any space from my brain to such people's pathological behavior. Life is much too short for that.
It's interesting to me to hear the different opinions on this. For me, chess is a social game. There is no point in playing if you can't talk to your opponent. In my opinion, if you aren't going to talk or interact with your opponent, it makes more sense to just play against a computer, where they don't talk back.
I don't understand the advantage of playing a person who doesn't communicate with you verses a computer that also doesn't communicate with you.

I have a wife I don't think she would like me "chating" with some girl except her.
Besides its not social I just like winning.
Do not chat on a chess site.
Do not play chess on a chat box.
