Of course there is a way to comeback! Being a pawn down is not the end of the world. There are many end games where being a pawn up is still a draw. I also had doubled pawns. As long as you avoid major trades you can set up tactics. If you don't make things difficult for your opponent of course you are never going to make a comeback.
