How long does it take to get to each benchmark, 1000, 1200, 1500, 2000, 2200?

I think someone started playing after being 2000 otb

rychessmaster1

Nah I started playing blitz when I was 1700-1800ish

My blitz always rose high above my otb

After a rating of 1000 I gained about 100 points a year consistently for about 8 years, although I slowed down near the end of that so about 10 years to 1800 and a few more years to 2000.

In the last 4 years I've played... I think less than 5 OTB tournaments.

It didn't help that I started at an age older than all of you are now tongue.png

That puts you around 90 if my math is correct. Should be able to make master if you increase your playing time.

With some exceptions wink.png

Ten didn’t seem right. I can almost remember 40. I was so young then.

So you were never a beginner

Ziryab

I was a beginner before ratings existed.

In that case, believe it or not I don't think I was ever below 2200 on chess.com

Well, his rating graph never shows below 2200, so he had good reason to believe it.

Those data points show your highest rating for the day, so it also makes sense that someone found a time he was below 2200... it's just that he was rated higher earlier (or later) that day, and was rated higher both the day before and after.

drmrboss

Dont forget people can drop -150  rating in one day.

After tiredness and unlucky day.

Surprisingly,  it was one day before when I pushed  2300 in a day in the other L site.

nihilistiq

Yeah fair enough, I just glanced at the graph

When I was tilting a few days ago (down to 2100) I was grinding to 2200 for hours just so I can keep my graph clean, everything above 2200

i think it depends on the person but i don't think that's the typical experience for most uscf players. i haven't gone at it consistently or throughally but have been playing on and off for 15 and am only now at 1600 or 1700 uscf arguably/have logged almost 18000 games. average uscf is not 1400, is close to 750, and among current players (7.5 percent of all uscf players who've ever played) is about 1000. add me up if you would like to see the study i did on it/put up my blog grin.pngis possible to grow this fast with chess.com ratings because of the rd factor, but to get a uscf of those that fast i reckon you'd have to a lot of time on your hands and or study/have crazy obsessive focus which most people don't.
