I will.

@December what specific questions do you think we should ask?

All the methods and goals we put in the OP are already carefully worked out with the guidance of mods and advice of other members.

So any questions we ask, would ultimately have to come to the same conclusion, since we have already established everything that we as regular members are allowed to do in order to positively change the community.

It's basically positive reinforcement and a civil discussion. I think If we started a new topic, we'd achieve nothing but lose all those valuable posts/discussions and the platform we have built here.

The only downside is that the same people consistently go off topic in here, because they don't care. That's just frustrating after a while. Guys please just try to keep private conversations, private.

@Colby-Covington I talked with you and found that you were always polite with me whenever my opinion was different with your thoughts so just i want to appreciate your way of writing on forums because it is really better sometimes.

I appreciate that, thank you.happy.png

That's what it's all about, respecting each other's different opinions and trying to find similarities to build on. It's moments like these that define the purpose of this topic. Thanks again, for making that happen.

Colby, I told the forum before that OmShruti is very sweet and kind and has always made me happy always. But then again, who takes a cartoon serious, anyway?

But to get back with you on what questions you should ask about community clean up, is...directed at the forum :

1. Hi. My name is Colby and I'm interested in cleaning up the community, getting rid of angry trolls, and making people happy with smiles and such. How do you suppose I go about doing this?

2. The reason I want to clean up the community is because I am a kind, loving, Colby. I care about the people who the feelings that the trolls are hurting. Do you have any suggestions on how I can go about accomplishing such a feat.

Now, I'll allow the forum, if they choose to do so, to interject some questions or Ideas on what to do. And, behold!!! No need to start a new thread, because, it's basically on topic  with the current thread already. Besides, This thread has already drawn the attention of who knows how many chess.com members!!

Alright thanks for your suggestions!happy.png

Couple of things though lol.

It's not just me, we have a medium sized group now and many people who support the cause or just wish us well. Actually, I'll have far less time soon, so Terminator will be taking over for me. I'll only be active in clubs then.

We don't wanna get rid of anyone, and deliberately don't use the term "troll" because of its deragotary nature and infinite meanings.

All we really wanna do is have a civil discussion about the issues we face and maintain a positive atmosphere while doing it.happy.png

I like your idea of asking questions to stimulate a debate though.

We'll just have to phrase it in a way that includes the current methods and goals, because we carefully worked those out with moderators, and they already contain precisely what we can and are allowed to do.

As for the topic, thank you!

We'll just have to make more of an effort to keep people on topic, but right now it's OK.

I cannot understand the ignorance unless maybe if age 6 and haven't yet learned what is sensible.

yes, i completely agree! happy.png ...although its directed at the OPs posts, and not mine.

Avatar of Colby-Covington

Agreed, that can be a problem.

I personally think it's not always intentional though.

Some of us are simply used to different styles of communication. Certain people like to be a little rougher, others don't. I wouldn't say that such a "rough" communication style is inherently malicious and meant to be hurtful.

That's why it's so important to always mind the context.

But sure, there will always be people who get offended by it.

So the question is, does person A have to change his rough style, or person B just needs to toughen up?

i recommend you check out the forum

Avatar of Colby-Covington

Yes, about that.

Please no direct links to topics or posts, because it could lead to specific people being shamed or otherwise attacked.

We have to be careful about that, so let's try to phrase it in broader terms.

This is incredible. Someone who makes unwarranted personal attacks even suggests looking at the forum thread? This is amazing. How could anyone be that illogical as to say "look here and see me making a fool of myself"?

"unwarranted personal attacks' i fail to see where. all i see if you complaining about a load of nothing, blocking people with contrarian opinions, and ranting about the most minute inconveniences.

i don't want to start some sort of flame war on this forum, so ill just leave it at that.

have a good day! happy.png

Avatar of Colby-Covington

That's what I meant, GM.

We don't want to publicly attack or scrutinize anyone here. That's something for actual mods to handle. We have neither the right nor the authority to do that. Publicly accusing anyone is always a bad idea.

Colby hunnie, it's already too late. I already took a look at GMproposed's thread. He was getting very frustrated at that person's....well....exchange in dialog. There's really nothing we can do about that person. Well, nothing constructive or positive, anyway. Maybe offer hugs - person is under no obligation to accept.

Making illogical attacks of saying what is going on in my life is not personal? Please. I cannot believe I am seeing this. How could anyone's mind be that horrible?

sorry, i meant: Im so sorry, i cant imagine what it must be like to get blocked, like google translate is sooooo stupid". better?

I understand that's frustrating man, but you can't publicly go after the guy, that's not the right way.

I think our rules of engagement could actually help you in this situation. When you notice that a person is simply not interested in reasonable discussion then just disengage. You'll stop the situation from escalating and won't burn your last nerve. Win/win situation.happy.png This really works.
