Mine was always making sure that the knights faced each other, and not straight ahead.

When you watch a chess match you always see the players adjust their pieces. They prefer the pieces to be aligned just right. Some will play with a pawn during a game, or just hold it; some gently place pieces, while others are more forceful with their move.
